Books I'd love to see

By Dastorn, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I love Star Wars, and I'm probably going to collect every one of these books. I'd love to see a more traditional approach to tackling some of the published material though, like how D&D had an entire book dedicated to a bestiary.

An example of this would be a Droid rule supplement displaying different droid models with stats, plenty of reference pictures, and some other interesting droid content.

I would also like to see a bestiary of the galaxy, showcasing some of the more frightening creatures.

And with the bluray release, I have been dying to know if there is a Rogue One themed book with species, ships, locations from the movie? I really hope so, it would be a shame not to.

Thanks

I'm sure they'll likely explore other tome options once they've got all the career books out the door.

The pirate knows everything, therefore he's probably correct :D

A rogue one book would be fun, but I bet we'll see a beginner's game a la TFA. I personally hope that we get PDF editions before we get compilations. I really don't see a need for a compilation.

What's troubling, though, is the of availability of the core books. Why be promoting TFA beginner game when Amazon, for example, is out of stock of 2 out of 3 core books and pretty much all the supplements?! The core books should always be stocked IMHO. Someone seems asleep at the wheel...

Amazon isn't a good barometer of what's available. The upcoming page just had a bunch of CRBs pushed out to the stores.

Ok miniature market is also out at the mo. But good to know resupply is coming. Strange to let them run out though. Star Wars is a big deal once more...

From a niche market perspective it is better to sell 100% of what you make, even if that doesn't "saturate" the market, rather than keep a lot of inventory on hand or sitting at distributors unsold for some time. West End Games, when it faltered in the last 10 years (not referring to the late 90s problems under the original owners), did so because the owner of it made some bad investments in products he thought would sell better, which has to be paid for upfront before any sales are done (printers don't print on speculation). So, he couldn't make more products while his money was sunk into books that weren't moving.

Agreed. It's a balance.

FFG needs a new printing company

I'd love to see more region books. They have been my favorite books in the game so far and I would defenitely like to have more. There are so many awesome regions left to explore... Tatooine, Deep Core, Coruscant, corporate sector, so much depth can be added.

Once the career books are done I'd like to see them dial it up a notch and instead of just a region books I'd like to see a campaign book tied to a region. Something that would encompass the region, plot hooks, modular encounters, the trending events and issues in the region, named NPCs and their locations. It could introduce new mechanics, gear, universal specs, etc. Something that would lay out a path for beginning PCs through like 500 xp or something. Make it as thick as a CRB, I don't care, but bring it all together in a volume.

What do we think is likely to be on the cards for Edge, now that the careers are complete?

Region books and adventures, for now. I think.

Maybe eventually more careers or specs?! I could think of a few more per CRB. But that seems like a long shot.

The region books have been great so far- I too would love to see more of them. Other than the overall quality, I really appreciate the way they've each got some player options and gear, some stat blocks for sentient and non-sentient adversaries, and a handful of modular encounters. As a GM, modular encounters are the thing I get most excited about. Bit biased there.

In addition to Region books, I wouldn't mind more "Thematic" books. Like "How to be a Privateer/Pirate" (WEG did that one). "How to be Special Forces", "How to be a Criminal Syndicate", where they give better guidelines on how to include all specs. Maybe it would be a combined adventure, with additional hooks, some general guidelines.

I'm guessing these will be spread out amongst future supplements, even if the theme of the supplement does not match up exactly with the species, gear, or location. We've seem some stretches in other supplements. Many of us want the stats on the stuff we saw and FFG realizes this, so it won't all be in one book but across several because $.

I think region books more or less cover many of the ideas here, but we only have 4 total so the actual formulas are hard to see. All of the books include a wide variety of adversaries, essentially acting like 'bestiaries' from other games. Lords of Nal Hutta, Strongholds of Resistance, and Nexus of Power all have a theme in each book that they cover: LoNH gives a detailed breakdown of the Hutt cartels, SoR covers select Rebel bases and what PCs can do in them, and NoP covers the various Force nexuses and their effects.

As the need to focus on career books lessen, further tempering of the region books would be nice. Chapter 1 covers the locations and settings. Chapter 2 focuses on using the setting and the groups within, incorporating a player group. Chapter 3 focuses on player options; I especially liked how NoP included a list of motivations related to the different areas in the book, and it would be nice of these books would include more background ideas (like in the career books, but tailored to the theme of the book), or possibly specially tuned obligation/duty/morality hooks and ideas. Chapter 4 has the modular encounters, which are pretty nice; it would be cool if they included a short adventure like the ones found in the back of the CRBs or the screens, or campaign outlines and ideas.

The region books have indeed been great. I just picked up NoP and SoR. I like the mention of Lothal from Rebels quite a bit because I'm using it for the setting of my next campaign in the early Empire days.

I'd really like to see a Mandalorian supplement. It would be mainly about the people, but they could tackle the planet Mandalore itself, it's moon Concordia, etc and other races and planets that they have had grudge matches with. Detail their tech from different armor types to weapons and vehicles (quite a bit of stuff to list).

I would also think that Mandalorians, like Corellians in SoF would get their own variant of Human stats. Like maybe they start with one of the following; Coercion, Melee, Ranged (Heavy), or Ranged (Light) and can train whichever the PC has chosen to rank 3 during character creation. /shrugs

Mandalorians are already covered in Friends like These.

A GCW focused Mandalorian supplement would probaly be pretty sparse, more suited to a chapter in a book than a whole book on its own.

If we were talking the peak of the Mandalorian culture you could talk about the massive amounts of planets in their control and the internal politics and etc and easily make a whole setting book out of it, but the fairly neutered Mandalore of the GCW era isn't really the same.

I would love an Edge setting book called Seat of Power covering Coruscant in fine detail from the depths of the under city to the pinnacle of the senate.

Edit:

Another great AoR book could be focused on the empires most loyal worlds, this book could have an entire chapter focused on playing Imperial PC's with an entire Duty chart dedicated to dutys to the Empire. Pillars of Dominance?

A Corporate sector book would be great too, although it could very easily be a combined Edge Adventure/Sector book similar to JoY (with Cloud City) and FLT (with Mandalor)

we havent seen Jawa or Sand People so I already think they are planned for a Tatooine supplement.

Add Geonosian for an Arkanas Sector adventure? Could be Edge or Age,

Might I suggest "Fortresses of Oppression" instead; the term "Fortress World" does seem to exist in (Legends) Imperial military doctrine, and there, supposedly, is another book similarily named.

Yes, I've been wanting to see life from the point of view of people who aren't rebels. Surely many must see the Empire similar to how Roman citizens viewed the Roman Empire. You know, where you don't have to be flat-out evil to join the Navy.

I like "Bastions of Oppression" myself. Focusing on major planets vital to or heavily integrated into the Empire, like Eriadu, Byss, Balmora, Coruscant, Carida, and so on. The trick would be species; I thought Chiss, Umbarans, and Imperial Humans, but the human subspecies have a tendency to be base breaking.

I still hold out hope for a s"hadowports book". That would cover places like Tatooine, Socorro, Abregado-rae, Takodana, and other shadowports. It would be a good place to include species like Jawas, Gamorreans, and something else (I'd say, based on what we see of them, the Abednedo from E7).

Another idea I had was book covering planets that were major battlefields during the Clone Wars. What is Christophsis, Felucia, Mygeeto and Utapau like during the Galactic Civil War? It could incorporate a lot of Clone Wars material and species.

There are also places like the Hapes Consortium, Bothan Space, Sith Space (a good idea for a F&D book), and the Corporate Sector that can get attention, although a lot of that is Legends.
