Fuel for the flotilla fire

By PartyPotato, in Star Wars: Armada

Just thought I'd throw this out there.

This shows the popularity of flotillas as a % of total ships by month. So for November out of all the ships that were included in all new lists created... 35% of them where some type of flotilla.

For those that don't know this is based on data from Warlords Fleet builder.

Enjoy

"Daddy, what were the Armada forums like back in 2017?"
"Well son, people argued about flotillas so much that we were desperate. So desperate we even would've taken Harambe memes. Anything that wasn't about flotillas or squadrons."
"Wow Daddy, that sounds terrible!"
"They were dark times. Very dark times. The kind that try a man's very soul and make him wish in some small way that his internet would cut out just so he couldn't bare witness to the hopelessness of it all. The kind that break lesser men."
...
"Daddy needs some alone time now, so go along and play."

Well, yeah. At the very least, flotillas are fun little 'ships' to run, as long as you don't go overboard and be 'that guy'.

I still want to see a couple of 'gunship' flotillas. Like a pair of Dornean gunships, maybe with just a ordnance slot and a weapons team slot, and a squadron value of '1', if not '0'. Fun, adds something to the small ship class the Rebs don't have, but without making an obvious replacement for CR-90's.

Imperial flotilla could be similar but based around Turbolasers.

You asked for it...

So what the graph is really telling us is that flotilla usage as a percent of total fleet points is declining.

These are the flotillas that try men's souls....

You guys are really amping this up. I thought the rage was pretty contained, and people did a pretty reasonable job of articulating their viewpoints. Standard tack, I suppose. Gotta make people with an opinion different than the groupthink seem unhinged.

I swear I only came cause I saw an opening for a Harambe meme. I have no horse in the flotilla race.

I'll gladly take Armada flotillia complaint spam over X-wing's TLT, Jumpmaster, and mindlink threads calling for a nerf. It is so bad it makes me long for the days of Han and Whisper whining days.

Seriousl FFG should censor Nerf is if it were ****. Both are four letter words.

and look it can easily be used in a sentence.

Nerf You!

Go Nerf off you Nerf Herder?

What, what you going to do Nerf Herder, I'll Nerf Your Nerf Herding List Right Up.

You want to Nerf with me, I'll Nerf Your List Up!

Don't Nerf with me Nerf Herder!

Harambe was a gorilla, not a horse.

Strangely enough I have to agree. I actually have a better understanding of your side of the argument after today.

So please have a well reasoned discussion with me whenever.

So, I should not be making 8 flotilla lists in fleet builder for mess around games cause people use it as reliable data. Opps, my bad.

No worries, it's in there right next to my 4 Nebulon/12 A-wing fleet.

And my Triple Interdictor fleets.

Man I got so much heat from the squadrons debate. Can I give you my negative feelings from this forum for the fire?

Awings with Nebs?

Sorry I shouldnt be taking this seriously, but man thats a dodgy neb line.

Data suggests that flotillas increased average activations of a fleet by about 1, internet explodes.

35% is 1.56 in a 4.46 average activation fleet.

Thats seems surprisingly low to me.

Can't take .56 of a ship, reasonable rounding. The neat correlation was the large ship increase, which is pretty damned important given how on the ropes they were.

I have no problem with peoples opinions. I do have a problem with people using opinions as facts. Shouldn't happen, but it does plenty on these forums. The data we have from the regionals (thanks again @shmitty ) shows facts.

@WWPDSteven , I may have missed it but how does the data look from your collection project? That data would help define some talking points as well.

I also have a problem with the "git gud" attitude some folks are having. Folks come to these forums for a sense of community, and you git gud folks are the equivalent of the high school jocks. Help others git gud, don't just call their questions stupid, or berate them for having a different opinion than yours. Opinions aren't right or wrong, their just how someone feels about something. Seriously folks, we are better than the animals, act like it. We have Thumbs!

/rant over. I should have coffee before coming into these posts.....

Anyone using flotillas is purposefully breaking the game and hampering its future!

Can we pull data like this ourselves from warlords? I'd be really curious to pull a few trends for the heck of it. In particular, %of fleet in squads.

I ran out of likes.

I really just want everyone to accept that they don't agree with each other and stop antagonizing. It's childish and splitting the community when you have groups labelled as "git gud" vs "nerf flotillas".

It's perfectly acceptable to say "I don't think flotillas are a problem, but I understand if you see 5+ flotillas every game that it can be an issue or grow stale when both sides activate flotillas to delay their heavy hitters."

It's also possible to debate someone's argument without being a jerk and making troll threads.

More importantly, FFG doesn't look at this issue as a popularity contest. It's not like getting 51% of the community on one side or the other is going to sway FFG from nerfing flotillas or leaving them alone. Ultimately, they will make their choice independent of the community. They have a vision that we cannot see with their development pipeline.
