There will be Resistance ships in episode VIII

By Kiwi Rat, in Star Wars: Armada

Okay sorry for the click bait. ;)

But if you look in the "Full crew and Cast" list in IMBd: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2527336/fullcredits?ref_=tt_cl_sm#cast

You will see there are two actors, that are cast as "Resistance Bridge Officer".

Bases has command centers.

Ships has bridges :D

Tim Rose is cast as Admiral Ackbar.

If Ackbar is on the bridge of a ship, he would obviously be in command.

A ship commanded by Ackbar could be...

Home One...?

Home Two ? :P

Or mayby just another blimpy Assault Frigate ;)

Mon...something...Remonda :):):)

Who knows...

Whilst there will most likely be new ships for the New Republic/ Resistance (hopefully starhawks) and a load of new ships. We already know that the Resistance still used the Home One and another MC80 star Cruiser (I forget the name of it) so I'm hoping we see our beloved Admiral still at the helm of the flagship of the Alliance.

I am significantly eager to see some new resistance capital ships! Bring on the fleet!!!

Man, Home One must either be an extraordinary chassis with consistent weapon and electronics upgrades (think A-10s) or the oldest, tiredest POS in space by Episode VIII

I have considered it a likely conclusion that General Leia Organa will be killed off in the expected space battle, as most of those shots are done post production. I do wonder if she will be taking Admiral Ackbar and Home One with her. :(

I do hope they show Ackbar even though his actor sadly passed away. He's still my favorite Star Wars character.

The title is very silly

It's certainly more confirmation than we would have had otherwise.

Ok cool, capital ship battles for VIII? Hopefully the First Order also has some interesting classes to field. Bring on the Maxima!

Not sure what provides source for enthusiasm on this - I mean, the designs we've seen so far from Episode VII have been...kinda boring, to say the least.

I think it looks sharp, I just don't understand why it has such a low anti squad value.

Hey, that 1 red anti-squad did bag that TIE at max range though. Sometimes it does roll a double

Um... you see the rest of the Imperial Armada fleet, right? The only thing that isn't triangular in some way is the Gozanti.

Personally, I love the Resurgent. I like it as the new-age Imperial. The only disappointment with it is that it didn't have more of a showing in VII actually fighting things. That's something every Star Wars film struggles with, even Rogue One, is actually giving us a blow-by-blow of capital ship exchanges making a difference. Sure, the Hammerhead rams an Imperial, but it's not like we have a sequence of a Nebulon trying to evade fire and then watching it get blown in half. We see that after Devastator already fired a volley.

The best fleet exchange has been the Rebels season finale, but even that did more fighter focus.

So, hopefully VIII can give us a real capital battle worthy of putting our Armada pieces on the table and trying to recreate.

I have to disagree. The design of the Resurgance class is downright awesome!

Eh - I don't hate it (like, say, the ridiculously derivative "TIE/fo" and just-boring T-70 X-Wing). Indeed, if they'd given it a bit of the 'ramming prow' sort of thing (not NEARLY as extreme, but just 'along those lines') of the EU's Eclipse/Sovereign-class SSDs...

...I think I'd actually like it a lot.

I think the Resurgent was designed specifically to provide a bridge between the ISD and the Eclipse, and we will see the latter (or a slight re-working of it) in episode 8.

That would be an interesting development, sure. The ship definitely does LOOK a LOT like the Eclipse - just take off the 'ram prow' and traditional Star Destroyer bridge, replacing the later with that hammerhead-type bridge it has, and the ships would be close to identical.

(FWIW, what I thought was the most interesting design development on the Resurgent-class was that sort of...eh....?split?-type superstructure? That the main body had two distinct 'halves', sort of, with the lower jutting out below the upper. It looked very cool close-up, but when looking at most of the renders I've seen of it...much less pronounced, when looked at as a whole, which is a disappointment. Will be interesting to see what FFG does with the model - I mean, wave 7...definitely the Resurgent and MC75, amiright?)

I doubt it. I really dont think the ST era stuff should make its way into the current factions. Thematically it just doesnt make sense considering how much more advanced a Resurgent is supposed to be.

I think what we're gonna get is this. The New Republic/Resistance and the First Order will be made factions that can both use all and any of the current OT era ships and upgrades in fleet lists. Maybe we'll get a kit full of Sequel Trilogy era titles for all the current ships in a CC esque way. However I dont think having OT fleets featuring Resurgents is such a great idea considering the time gap.

clone wars was 20+ years before GCW got really into it. Gozantis, Peltas, CR90s, Hammerheads are at least as old as the Clone Wars. So they are in a fleet with ISDs (which were the latest and greatest tech at the time they were designed) and that doesn't bug you? That 20+ year tech difference is fine, but the 30 from GCW to Ep8 is too much?

So why is the thought that this 30 year gap is going to be different? See my earlier snarky but serious comment about chassis upgraded with new tech. No reason you can't go pretend that the ISDs fighting with the Resurgence didn't get overhauls.

If you read what I wrote I actually support OT ships fighting alongside ST era ships. ;) The factions of New Republic/Resistance and First Order should have full access to every ship (respective to their faction) currently in Armada along with their new stuff for fleet building and battling.

I DON'T think that the Imperial and Rebel Alliance factions should be able to use any ST stuff. I don't want to be playing a Galactic Civil War battle and see a bunch of Resurgents defending the Second Death Star at Endor.

Possible solution is that a fleet with a FO/Resistance Admiral can take OT ships and cards, but a fleet with an OT admiral cannot take FO or resistance ones.

That way your choice of commander decides what time your fleet is based in. There is no reason why OT stuff can't be around and being used during the FO/Resistance conflict.

Unfortunately, unles we're talking about an admiral who we know died before the sequel, who's to say they aren't still serving 30 years later (how long to Mon Calimari live anyway)?

Ackbar is already old by the time of Aftermath, I think he may be simply a cameo, but not serving as an admiral (He'll probably be like Dodonna in ANH)

So will there be a Episode 8 core set?

Until one appears there, all is speculation.
