Ditching or losing things that gave a benefit?

By Velvetelvis, in Talisman Rules Questions

Some cards say " increase strength by x in battle". I get that you need the item to get the benefit.

But things like the unicorn for example just say increase x by x.

Can I get rid of the unicorn after and keep the bonus on that sort of thing?

That's because a Unicorn is a follower, not an item. To receive the benefits of a follower or item, it needs to be in your possession.

Right on..So for instance..The belt that adds stats...They are added when you aquire the belt but remain if the belt is lost later? It just said to add the stats

Or put another way....To have the benefit does the character have to always have the item that granted it?

add means you have something as long as the card that adds it

gain means you gain something for good

Awesome! Thank you.

The difference between the belt and a sword is that you can use the sword only in battle and magic belt at anytime you do a strength check (i.e. in battle or when opening the portal of power). You lose the extra strength counter if you lose any object.

Unicorn works like the belt. Add at anytime but if you lose the unicorn you lose the counters as well.
