What's more important, winning an argument about local/state/federal law, or keeping the community friendly and just saying, "That sucks man," and moving on?

I wasn't trying to fight an argument just explain the law and expand knowledge of the truth, which seems to be in short supply in our world, but thanks for dragging this discussion back into the fore rather than let me let it rest.

Ok well I hate to continue to derail this thread with my problem. But I was kicked out of a second store at a later date and I did seek legal advice and the lawyers who agreed with me and we proceeded with a lawsuit.

Sorry that happened to you, and perhaps the laws in your area have more protections, and perhaps your lawyers were advising suit based on things I don't know about, either way, I agree with your decision to not do business with them.

I love sieges. I'm obsessed with them. To build off what you said, I know siege rules would never work with this game, but by God, I want to see trays of troops carrying ladders marching against trays mounted high on walls.

Sieges will be far easier in this game than you think. Each part of the castles (towers, wall sections, gate house) can be a terrain piece with a tray limit and easy objective cards to match.

You're right. I realized right after I posted that the highly abstract terrain rules wouldn't make it hard. Hell, you could use the existing terrain keywords for towers and walls and be done with it. You'd only need rules for breaching gates, and maybe design a single castle siege unit per faction. It would be really easy.

You could even have different cultures use different forts and castles. Daqan fortifications could be fortified x and cover x, while uthuk might be deadly and undead might be taxing. There's a lot of room for creativity. My only concern is how they're going to set guidelines for what terrain should look like, which currently is either used the provided cards or go carte blanche with little in between.

I'm really hoping they release an online editor/template so we can print our own cards.

But I'm also wondering if they plan to release their own "official" plastic terrain later.

That would be nice, but with minimal Photoshop/Gimp skill, you can make pretty decent-looking blank cards and add text. I'm sure it won't be long before someone releases a template; if nobody does by the time I get my hands on the game, I might make some high-res scans and do it myself. At that point, you just need to pick a font; the official one is probably proprietary, but we can likely find something close.

I thin it's more likely that they release 2D cardboard terrain than plastic terrain, while I would like them to do plastic terrain the terrain market is quite big these dasy so this probably would be a risky move.

they are already releasing more 2d terrain in the hero packs

Ah good to know didn't notice that, but I personally was talking about a box full of terrain perhaps even with new rules, could be themed around factions or different battlefields (snow, swamp...)

my guess is they have decided to add the 2d terrain (and new objectives) to the hero packs to increase their value and will not release them in a pack by themselves.

Quite possible indeed, didn't think about that.

Colour me excited about new terrain in the Hero packs, particularly if they ultimately bring new terrain keywords...

I expect you wont see new keywords for a few years if ever. the current keywords cover most situations that will come up in a tournament.

Made a blank card using the scans we have now (thanks, @MysteriousRacerX !) and threw together a quick mock-up of some terrain we have here at the store. This was probably less than an hour of work (was doing it between other things) and it's far from perfect, but a good example of what is easily possible in Photoshop. :)

Very good work! opening the game to custom options.

Thanks! As I said, I'm going to try for some scans at higher resolution (300 dpi, ideally) and even then, I think someone with more Photoshop skill than I can do a better job of blending the colors/patterns in the background, but these will do for now. :)

Nice work! A very usefull bit of photoshop'ery.

Great stuff!

I'll just be here, sipping my coffee, fondly remembering the days of the Armada core set.

Seriously, this game is so much more complete out of the box. There is nothing to complain about.

Fondly? Do we remember the same core set? Our angst at dock workers, our desire for more ships, bigger games and more squadrons.

Oh you much be remembering the days of the Tarkin Park

Front toward enemy and then just swimming in those sweet, sweet command tokens.

Aaaand there's the announcement for the 3rd faction.

I think the title of this thread officially needs to change to Be Prepared for a Fast, Vibrant Meta.

C'mon rowdyoctopus !

My initial estimation was 3-4 months. If the Infantry Upgrade expansions really do come out by the end of Q2, it will only be about 2 months of core only. That was a pleasant surprise.

This new faction won't hit stores until after the period I thought would be stale.

If my sources are accurate, the stuff on the boat now (I had thought all that first wave of upgrades/expansions, but some still appear at the printers) should be in stores in May. We'll see if it bears out.

You have sources! If only I could get those too...
