Oh jeez, I'm sorry. I had no idea. That's understandable. They seem like a great store. I guess you can never tell.

Wow...that's awful. Well the Dojo is at 5550 N Broadway (basically Bryn Mawr and Broadway) and we are also getting it going at Pastimes in Niles. Maybe I'll make a Chicago Players thread...(and there already is a Pastimes: Runewars FB group)

no need to be sorry. you didnt do it lol. yeah it kinda shocked me as well. I probably should have pursued a lawsuit but I drug my feet and tried to forget it so its too late now. i would gladly meet you anywhere else though.
For the Chicagoland players, Fair Game in Downers Grove will be supporting the game as well. There are at least three of us that have the core set already, and I'm sure it will catch on. For those of you that mentioned Fair Game, let me know if you want to try and find a time to start playing a bit!
Also, I believe they are doing discounted preorders on Wave 1 stuff, something like 10% or 15% off of MSRP.
Edited by MysteriousRacerXNot to worry, by the time I finish painting my core set I'll have the new factions to buy before I even get a game in!

That would have been a waste of money and time. You have no legal grounds to stand on. As a private business they have the right to refise service to anyone for any reason.

no not true actually the american disabilities act makes it a civil crime to discriminate on the basis of a disability, just like you cannot exclude someone from your business for a wheelchair.

I'm hoping we get a decent group playing in Madison Wi as well. We already have 2 stores showing interest in the game.
For those worried about a stunted meta I'd be curious to know if you all are planning on playing just the supplied missions, objectives and terrain or if you're going to introduce your own ideas?
I see where somethign as limited as card games can have a stunted meta (though I'm still often suspcious of the claim) but with miniatures games there's so much that can be done with custom scenarios and such to mix it up, that maybe what is needed is just a bit of creativity and maybe some narrative spice.
Of course take this with a grain of salt as though I've been miniature wargming for a long time, I've only gotten in one game of runewars with the core set.

What is dibilatating about skin conditions? In order for something to classify as a disability you have to prove that the condition impairs you ability to act without assistance.

I'm fairly sure that's not true. Business can not by and large refuse to provide services to people based on things like a skin condition, in fact there are very few reasons a business can refuse service to someone in the US. Retail stores are not really private property and as long as they're open to the public they can't refuse to serve someone unless that person is being disruptive or breaking the law.
It's especially bad if they say that the reason they're refusing you service is due to some sort of medical condition that isn't a health hazard to others.

Unless they are part of a protected class, a private business absolutely can refuse to serve anyone for any reason. The disabled are a federally protected class. Depending on the state, certain skin conditions can be considered disabilities.
But seriously, isn't this a Rune Wars TMG forum? How did we get here?

Yes, this.

well trust me it does. it can be quite painful at times. depending on severity i have trouble walking or even bending knees or elbows. I am very thankful it is not nearly as bad right now and so far still getting better.

Looks like Tuesday Night will be a Rune Wars weekly league. I spoke with the manager about the game yesterday, and he is definitely interested in the game. I think we will start off with an Escalation league, hopefully within the next few weeks.

For me it comes down to local organized league play. At home, I'm willing to mess around with anything, though I tend to shy away from proxying full units. However, most of my Runewars time is gonna be spent playing at a local store. Sure, maybe I can find opponents willing to mess with Homebrew stuff, but I think most of us are going to stick with the vanilla game.
Personally, I'm most looking forward to messing around with custom terrain, and making it 3D.

That's not correct. A business is an entity that can refuse service to anyone for any reason or no reason at all, in the US. Retail stores are "Private Property with public access" and have very specific laws governing their practices, but none of them require you to do business with anyone for any reason. Individual municipalities can impose further rules, but nothing base line forces businesses from refusing service. For example, there exist very few laws which require a person to wear shoes when going to a restaurant or store. Bars and restaurants will very often reserve the right to not serve customers who come in barefoot. They are allowed to do this.
What is protected is not who the business can or cannot do business with, but rather who it can or cannot hire. The stricter laws in place governing protected groups apply to who a business is allowed to refuse work to (and even that is hard to enforce and only applies to larger corporations)
tl dr They can be jerks if they want to be and refuse to take your money, You don't have to do business with jerks. This is the American compact.

Ok well I hate to continue to derail this thread with my problem. But I was kicked out of a second store at a later date and I did seek legal advice and the lawyers who agreed with me and we proceeded with a lawsuit.

Yeah, I wasn't really thinking about proxying and homebrew rules. More about interesting scenarios and terrain layouts.
I enjoy terrain making more than any other aspect of miniature wargaming. After we get a few games under our belt, I'm looking forward to breaking out my medieval town and Mage Knight castle sections and trying some close-quarter battles with small one-or-two tray units.
A layout like this (a game we did years ago)...
...would be a bit too dense for maneuver, but spacing out the buildings a smidge could make for a pretty cool battles that would really mess with whatever preconcieved "meta" that folks might think they had figured out.
If you're interested, more pics of the layout (It's got a huge waterfront too) here:

Unfortunately I work nights so Tuesday won't work for me just weekends

What's more important, winning an argument about local/state/federal law, or keeping the community friendly and just saying, "That sucks man," and moving on?

I love sieges. I'm obsessed with them. To build off what you said, I know siege rules would never work with this game, but by God, I want to see trays of troops carrying ladders marching against trays mounted high on walls.
