fatigue & stress, which characteristic ?

By willmanx, in WFRP Rules Questions

I've got an issue about stress & fatigue.

1) Each physical characteristic can take fatigue, each mental characteristic can take stress. But which one exactly ?

When you take fatigue while attempting an action based on a characteristic, the tested characteristic take one or more fatigue or stress. But what about the other situations where rules says "you take one stress, one fatigue" without further details ? (I.E. : additionnal manoeuver during your turn, failed first aid/terror/fear check, etc...) How do you chose the appropriate affected characteristic ? It seems it's only a GM choice based on logical, but I may miss something...

2) Furthermore, don't you feel it's a bit complicated to follow stress/fatigue count for each characteristics... ?

As Toughness and Willpower are the major characteristic concerning health, we asked ourselves if it wouldn't be better to put fatigue on Toughness for every fatigue earned, and Willpower on every stress earned. The problem is this option modifies the rule balances.

1. They all do. Fatigue and Stress do not get applied to individual characteristics. They're running totals that can be compared to any and all of the characteristics.

2. Yes, which is why you don't. See above.

eg. You have St 4, To 3 and Ag 2. You have 2 Fatigue, and everything is fine. Then you make a St check and accrue one more Fatigue for a total of 3 Fatigue. Now, even though it was a Strength test, your Ag is fatigued, but your St and To is still fine.

To reinforce what monkeylite wrote: there is one Fatigue and one Stress tracked per character.

I houseruled just toughness and willpower must be met before any stat suffers fatigue, although we may go back to raw later.

This places undue importance on these two characteristics, forcing players to favor raising these over others.

Thanks a lot... I shouldn't re-re-read rules because they appear to me more difficult than they actually are happy.gif
