Most fun lists you've run?

I had fun with a Cracken fleet with 3 CR90's, a flotilla and an MC30. Probably a lot like a pure Corvette swarm, but with some fighter/bombers commanded by the flotilla, with 1 A-wing each to escort a couple of the corvettes.

I'm running a similar thing in the Vassal Freshman tournament right now, except another MC30 in place of one of the Corvettes and just four YT-2400s for squadrons. It's good fun! Looking forward to seeing if the Hammerheads would fit in there somehow.

That being said, I still have a pretty limited collection so I haven't had the chance to try out too many different types of fleets yet. But Cracken is definitely up there for me.

I had a lot of fun with Devastator + Decked out Interdictor shield battery + 2 slicer tool flots and vader

not super "tournament" effective, but if you manage to get devastator in their face and the interdictor slowing them down while your slicer tool flots take away all their nav commands it can be a blast.

I just ran a Rieekan CR90B spam list in a tourney last weekend, comprised of:

  • 5 CR90Bs (SW7, Engine Tech)
  • 1 CR90B (Fighter Coordination Team)
  • 1 CR90A (Rieekan, TRC, Jainas)
  • 1 VX100

The list of deadly, but it's deadly to itself as much as it is to the enemy. The way I played it was to shoot and ram (once or twice) and it was hard VERY hard to keep any decent number of CR90s alive, resulting in poor scores. I think it could be flown better, but it still relies on ramming and the ram damage I took would result in my ships dying soon after. The 1 VX100 is great when you're 2nd player, for 2 of your 3 objectives.

Super fun to buzz around and ram, but loses too many ships each match to be competitive.

The highlight for me was after Sullust, pre Wave 2, before everyone figured out how Ackbar could be used to bludgeon the Empire into submission with a storm of red dice. In those days, it was something like:

ISD-II // Motti / Gunnery Team / XI7 / ECM... Intel officer?

VSD-II // Gunnery Team / XI7... Intel officer?

VSD-II // Gunnery Team / XI7... INtel Officer?

Basically massive wall of battery fire with tweaks from this general idea. One solo match for practice with Screed over Motti and running NK-7s saw my ships destroyed before I even reached Ackbar. It spelled the end of the list, and ever since I've seen too many threats that can destroy it too easily to consider it valid. Consider Fighters... if you don't bring strong enough of a screen, you're at their mercy. Then there's activation economy. Then there's no way to mitigate 1 damage attacks. Etx.

IMO, that was the height of fun being an Imperial player: Overwhelming strength to withstand a lot of low-damage attacks and overwhelming firepower to crush any resistance. Honestly I think part of the reason I haven't settled on one list to stay with is because nothing has replicated that feeling of shrugging off damage while dealing tremendous damage in return.

Back in wave 2 I had a casual vassal game against @MattShadowlord where my list was just a fully kitted ISD-II with Vader Commander and every imperial ace squadron (sans Vader).

I also somehow won, as well...

I have two

Isd1 screed, xi7, expanded hangar bay, flight controllers

2x raider 1, oe, apts

2x firesprays, boba fett, major rhymes, Dengar, Vader, Mahler

The other

Isd2 moff jj, ecms, boosted coms, h9s

ArquitenLC needa, tcr,centicore

ArquitenLC tcr,hand of justice

3x tie defender Marak stele Jendon, tempest squadron

This game hates players who want to use big pew pews. Even Akbar is hard to use atm. #Squadrons

Immortal Mothma

[ flagship ] MC30c Scout Frigate (69 points)
- Mon Mothma ( 30 points)
- Foresight ( 8 points)
- Lando Calrissian ( 4 points)
- Electronic Countermeasures ( 7 points)
- Enhanced Armament ( 10 points)
- Assault Concussion Missiles ( 7 points)

Assault Frigate Mark II A (81 points)
- Paragon ( 5 points)

Nebulon-B Escort Frigate (57 points)
- Salvation ( 7 points)

CR90 Corvette B (39 points)
- Dodonnas Pride ( 6 points)
= 45 total ship cost

3 A-Wing Squadrons ( 33 points)
3 Y-Wing Squadrons ( 30 points)

I was actually giggling by turn 4 every time my opponent tried to shoot at Mothma's flagship. Important rage at its finest.

Well, I can understand if FFG has the mentality of more ships is better. Big batteries means fewer ships on the table, fewer ships used, and the game is about swinging superlasers at one another and see who falls first. I don't like small ship dominance, but I can admit in some ways it's more interesting.

Really what it comes down to I think is wishing mediums were the strongest units in the game, because you can either season (with light ships) or add sauce (heavy ships). Right now I think mediums are the weakest ship class, so players go to the extremes of spamming MSU lists or trying to add all heavies, or one or the other. If VSDs are on the table it's as a compromise to really get more fighters to the table for cheaper. *shrug*

2 for me. The 1st was a Dodonna 2xMC80 Command with ECM/XX-9s and some other fun and an XXXXBBBYY-Jan squad screen. Only game I ever played where we had to re-shuffle the guys damage deck because we ran out of cards.

The second was a pants-crap crazy 2xVSD and full squad. A VSD1 Dominator with IO/X17/Expanded Launchers/GunTeam is an amusing suicide ship.

That's my current "fun list" (still not fully able to fly it). I'm looking forward to this one as well.

My current fleet is my favorite :

180pt Endeavor

92 pt Torp MC30 Admonition w/ Lando APT

Bright Hope w/ Toryn Farr

Flotilla w/ EHB

X-wing

Shara Bey

2x E-wing

VCX

It's fast and hits hard, and the things I can do with Endeavor are nearly unbelievable.

The accidental bid

Mc30T Admonition EA Sensor teams

Mc30T Lando EA Sensor teams

Mc30S Foresight Ackbar Gunny Teams

Cr90A Jainas Light TRC

Tycho

349.

I forgot my squads at a store champ and was fortunate to be leant Tycho. I went 10-1 three times, making it to the 5th turn once. Only lost a single mc30 all day and Tycho twice.

They still havent forgiven me for it.

I shall return to the concept soon. Been of exploring Konstantine jerrod and ozzel long enough now.

I've been so tempted to try something like this just because of your success with it...

Its so much fun. No need to fly tight in formation, very loose from all angles at high speed. So confusing for opponents. Foresight as backup just in case the other two and jaina cant get the job done.

Not sure Tycho alone cuts it these days. He did enjoy taunting interceptors that day, and didnt make a single non counter attack.

Try it out, stress free flying.

My favorite list to this day was very similar to Ginks as well, I played the seams off my 3 MC30/8 YT2400 list in wave 2. Same title configuration as Gink, but subbing Dodonna for Ackbar and APT for those dreadful, dreadful sensor teams. It was the first fleet I felt like I had relative mastery over, and I always think of going back to it, it is just pretty inefficient by today's standards.

On the Imp side I liked doing double ISDs with tons of fighters. I like throwing all those dice middle of the game.

Rebels I have fun when doing double Mc30s that can get that pincer formation to kill off a large ship.

... The one thread I am actually allowed to post this... Oh boy... Better make this good...

Mothma's Angel's

You really thought I would say Dodonna the Oppressor right? Well you would be right yet at the same time while I had a blast with that list, Mothma's Angel's was just a ton to build and use and it proved that you should NEVER doubt a Nebulon B.

Though to be fair, it never did beat Hero ^_~

I ran a 5 raider ram/screed+assault protons that was pretty fun.

it cut even. Most matches were within 40 points.

hella fun to play though

I love playing raider and protons. I too have the same problem of only ending up within 50 points either way.

What were the upgrades/commander on the Endeavor?

This wasn't a list I ran but when I learned the game at 300 points, my opponent brought an ISD, Gladiator and if I remember right an Arquitens. We were playing without fighters, so neither of us had to worry about that. It was just impressive first game out to see an ISD be put down across from me who had nothing bigger than an Assault Frigate.

My list was supposed to teach me about all my ships (ASMkII, MC30, NebB, CR90) but instead I just ran four ships around not figuring out the strengths or weaknesses of either.

I've run this Arquitens-based list a few times. Love it, especially when I can use Navigational Hazards. :D
