Playmats

It's like Armada. They don't make a single playmat for that one; you have to buy two X-Wing mats and put them together. I think Runewars would be the same way. However, I'm not keen on the idea of buying two different mats and sticking them together. If, for example, my Uthuk Y'llan are coming out of the Ru Steppes to assault the Mistlands, my Uthuk should be on the barren desert for their deployment and Waiqar's forces should be in the misty swamps. Having the seam down the middle means that depending on deployment zone placement, my forces may all be in the Mistlands and the undead will be in the Ru Steppes.

since each mat is 3X3, more likely each army would be half on each mat.

Well, that reallydepends on the deployment card that gets chosen at the start of the game.

One of the local game stores has received his stock for next week's release and posted pics on Facebook. He had pic of a box of "Grassy Field Playmat" from Fantasy Flight Supply.

What!?!?!? Are they for sale or just demo stuff?

They will be for sale. Just the one design so far from what I can tell. Again, since these are printed in house for them, they have a very quick turn around and typically announce them pretty much when they are available.

I assume he'll be selling them. He'd posted a bunch of pics of stuff with a comment of being excited for next week's release.

With this pic you pretty much know as much as I do.

Do you know what store he is from?

Huh. Just spent last two days working on my own battleboard thinking FFG wasn't going to have something ready at time of release. Oh well, I'm happy with how it turned out.

If you find any pricing info, can you post?

My guess is $39.99 MSRP, like their X-Wing mats.

well of the 6 deployment zones in the core box only 1 would have each army on a separate 3'X3' mat. the rest have each army half and half between the 2 mats.

Drawbridge Games in Pittsburgh (Castle Shannon.) They have a Facebook Page.

3' by 3' with rounded corners...isn't the official tournament size 6' by 3' ?

Yes is it 6'x3' just like Armada...which works just fine with the 3'x3' X-Wing mats

Gotta say it's awesome playing Armada on the Endor+Starfield mats. Makes you feel like you're fighting the 2nd DS battle.

How does it work rolling up two mats together? Or is it better to roll them up separately? Just curious how efficient this two map system will be for travel.

Also I am curious, they say that you can use two mats for an epic full game, is it one or the other? Is the two mat system what you need for a full game or is it considered epic? These are mixed terms from X-Wing if I am not mistaken.

Rolling up two mats works just fine and you can fit them both in one of the boxes that the mats come in, I've done it quite often. There are plenty of options on the web for purchasing plastic storage tubes that are expandable and have straps that will easily hold two mats as well. The one thing I will caution about is storing your mats standing up. The weight of the mats can cause the bottom portion to wrinkle and deform if stored for a length of time. Store them laying down if possible.

I believe the are using the word "epic" as an adjective and not as a reference to a type of game. There is an "Epic" format in X-Wing that uses the larger ships (Corellian Corvette, Gozanti carrier, etc) that uses a 6'x3' play area. According to the RRG for Runewars there is "Standard" size games which are on a 6'x3' and then "Skirmish" games that are on a 3'x3'

I put two of the Star Wars ones in one of those expandable art tubes ( http://www.officedepot.com/a/products/448451/Staedtler-Telescopic-Art-Tube/ ) but I got mine much cheaper at the big chain craft store. It is tight and you have to take care when you roll them up but it is worth it not to carry two boxes and the carrying strap is a necessity as well no matter how you're transporting your minis.

$80 for two mats? Wouldn't it be better to buy a single 3x6 for about the same price? Using two 3x3's has the seam right in the middle of the battlefield.

Yep, $39.95 MSRP. That's the price of their X-Wing mats. I like the quality of those, though the big draw was the background with Star Wars planets.

Aren't there both 3x3 and 3x6 formats for this?

With two 3x3's you can play a smaller game without needing to measure the field out.

I play both X-wing and Armada so the two 3x3's are a better option despite the seam which isn't that big a deal at least in Armada. And if you have a bud you each can get one mat and you've split the cost for 3x6 but each can do the 3x3.

One of the guys has one of the after-market company game mats and I much prefer the FFG ones. The FFG ones don't seem to have the same sort of "glare" issues I've seen on others. I've not seen all but I've seen some 4x6 mats that were as nice and they went in the $80 range so this is just what this stuff costs.

We have a few of these Dust Tactics 2x3 mats we'll be using for a while. 3 to make a good 6x3, they're neoprene and they were free to the store a few years ago

CB3890A8-24B3-4AAC-B52D-1B0763432E2D_zps

I cant really understand why they made it 3x3 with round (!) corners when the only reason to play a 3x3 will probably be the first games with the core... probably a 6x3 mat will be coming later...

Armada's been out for 2 years. I wouldn't get your hopes up too high.

Oh no you guys, the mats aren't even out yet but they're already slow and stale! Nooooooooo.
