First solo deck help; Aragorn-Elladan-Elrohir

By manoftomorrow010, in Strategy and deck-building

Hi gang,

After making it into Dwarrowdelf strictly two-player, I've wanted to start over and run through things with solo play, since some level of deck building really interests me more than it does my s/o, so we don't change up our decks much in two-player. I've also wanted to have a solo deck to run through the quests progressively as a "story" for fun.

But, it's hard to sift through RingsDB and find solo decks that I can use or get advice from because so many decks there are dependent on cards I don't own. I have two Core sets, and all APs from the first cycle, and all APs, except Watcher in the Water and Foundations of Stone from Dwarrowdelf in the 2nd cycle (have KD, obv).

While I'm going to play the quests in order, I'm going to use this cardpool from the get-go. I like to play Lore & Spirit, but I know I need some of either Tactics or Leadership. I also use Eowyn, Beravor, and Dunhere in two-player and would like to branch out some on the heroes. Although, I love Beravor a ton.

Any help or advice is much appreciated.

In the top right of the ringsdb decklist search page, there is a filter that lets you "Select allowed packs", and only decks build with these packs will show up in the search.

Oh, durh. Finding some good ideas. Thanks!

I settled on an Aragorn-Elladan-Elrohir deck because I like the twins, and thematic decks, so this would be the twins and Aragorn running around the wilds with Eagles to help.

I'm at 53 cards, and I guess I could cut back on the 2 Spirit events, given that I may never see Celebrian's Stone for Aragorn to get the Spirit icon. I'm not sure where Steward would go, but maybe Elladan, although there aren't many high-cost Tactics cards here, it would at least help smooth those out.

Aragorn
Elladan
Elrohir

Allies
Dunedain Watcher x3
Eagles of the Misty Mountains x3
Faramir x2
Gandalf x3
Snowbourn Scout x3
Vassal of the Windlord x3
Winged Guardian x3

Attachments
Celebrian's Stone x2
Dunedain Cache x2
Dunedain Quest x2
Rivendell Blade x3
Steward of Gondor x3

Events
A Test of Will x3
Feint x3
Hands Upon the Bow x3
Sneak Attack x3
The Eagles are Coming! x3
The Galadhrim's Greeting x3
Valiant Sacrifice x3

Just a tip but on Ringdb you can save your decks and then link to them. Makes it a lot easier to look at it then just a list like this. While I would imagine some of the pro's know every card in the game like the back of their hand, most of us use our limited brain capacity for more important details then what Hands Upon The Bow does (though I actually know that one :)

In general though as a solo player, at least for us mere mortals at least (Im sure some pros will disagree), its generally extrodinarily difficult to build a single deck and get through all of the quests, unless you enjoy playing 20 games for that one you get lucky on. In particular with a limited card pool. In general you have to build decks for each quest to A fighting chance unless your playing easy mode or one of the solo player variants to lighten things up.

I think its possible to build decks with the same heroes, though, swapping out heroes can be a god send, there are some quests for which some heroes are tailor made.

Also just a tip, from my personal experiance (again not a pro here) but I have found that collecting the Deluxe and Saga expansions first, does wonders for your card pool and actually makes for a far less frustrating experiance then trying to collect cycles in chronological order.

Good advice lol here is the link to the deck on RingsDB in a newer version.

I definitely get having to change things based on the quest's demands. I already know this deck would probably have a hard time against Hills of Emyn Muil. I'm also already thinking "**** would I be able to deal with the Hill Troll?" Lol

I downloaded OCTGN and was playing this deck against Journey Down the Anduin last night. I was about 8 rounds in, and the Hill Troll had 8 damage, things were working out well, although slow, and then my internet dropped out :(

:( I actually don't sign in to Octgn when I'm playing solo for that very reason.

Wait so you can play offline?

Yeah, if you don't log in and just skip to the Play tab. It's silly that the game freaks out over a lost Internet connection that it doesn't need.

That's a huge help, thanks. Also, the deck I wound up playing last night was not the Aragorn-Elladan-Elrohir, but swapped Aragorn for Eowyn for better questing.

I'll be playing offline from now on haha also good to know I can play on the go, since the laptop I have the program on is one of the laptop/tablet type things that is easy to carry around on vacation or something.

Is there a way to play 2-handed, solo? Like if my partner and I wanted to play online instead of with the physical cards not at home?
