Blockade run is a lot of fun

Talking about the standard objective (not CC although I don't know if CC is the same or not), we played this yesterday and we had a lot of fun. What you need to be careful if you're 2nd player is to actually reach the other's player deployment zone. At round 4 I realized I still had a ways to navigate so I bumped up all my ships speed to maximum. Although, be careful not to get there too soon as you'll have to turn around and it's not really ideal if bombers are chasing you. I liked how big the map felt and it was a nice change of pace because you had more room to navigate, but obstacles felt more present as they were all focused in the center of the map. Action still started around round 2 and 3 and kept going until the very end. So, it's become one of your favorite objectives to play for sure.

If some of you hasn't tried yet, I highly recommend it.

A minor, but important point:

The scoring condition for 2nd player is Within.

Especially with Large ships this can be an important distinction.

It would be my favorite objective if the roles were switched. Forcing your enemy to come to you is a huge advantage. Selecting this as second player means in order to score points you are giving your opponent that tactical advantage, as well as the first activation to blow one of your ships up. All they have to do is turtle and wait for you to come into the big batteries of the ISD or Liberty or their awaiting bomber ball.

I love playing on the sideways map, I VASTLY prefer it to the wide map. But I never feel like I can afford to give my tournament opponents that much of an advantage by taking it in competition.

For tournaments, it's not ideal from a points perspective. But it is a blast to play in general.

It does seem to be handing a rather ridiculously easy setup to the 1st player.

Also: it's a RED OBJECTIVE. And, o-m-g, points-wise, there are better red objectives for player 2 to pick. If it had been yellow or blue, maybe, but still no...as a red, though? ROFLnope....

sometimes the goal is to play for fun and not for points ;)

Exactly what I think everyone is saying- It's an insanely objective that was criminally mis-managed by FFG to give advantage to first player instead of second. Who cares if first second player is the only who can score points, he is going to get tabled running an MSU into the jaws of death.

@mhd had a very viable 'double crutch' fleet in the VASSAL WC 2017. It had Blockade Run, and I think it fit that fleet very well.

One of the fun things about discussing these theoretical situations is they can be tested. I challenge Barbara Fett to a fun game of blockade run on vassal against the "double crutch"!

(The one that Green Knight expertly broke over his knee, so yeah, I'll probably still lose. But fun will be had by all!)
