77+: I am disappointed

By Hawkstrike, in X-Wing

Where's the humor? Where's the casual? Where are the crazy and fun builds? Where's the TIE Punisher?

Link for those wondering what I'm on about.

I mean, c'mon ... the people who make the finals have made it through some incredibly competitive games. We know they can run with competent stuff. I want to see what they can do with crazy, fun, trollish builds that they somehow make work.

Give me a TIE Advanced with a Sensor Jammer and Stealth Device. Give me a Y-wing with Genius, Bomb Loadout, and Ion Bombs. Give me a HWK with an Autoblaster Turret and Engine Upgrade. Give me a Tansari Point Vet with an Autoblaster Cannon and Fearlessness.

There are too many serious builds in the choices. Do over, FFG, do over.

I see your point, especially because now we have a somewhat in between crazyness and competitiveness which most likely won't be appreciated by most.

By myseld I would have much more loved to see them play with full competitive lists in a sort of xwing champions league

I mean, you can say it's serious but I'm reading these ships+upgrades, and a lot of this stuff is jank as all get out. Scum Y with Autoblasters and Cluster Mines? The G1 with Tactician/Feedback? And IonCrack Heavy Syck with an additional shield upgrade? Fearlessness/Deadman Kihraxz?

Some builds are simple, or obvious - because there's not a lot to do with those particular ships maybe. And, I mean, you are trying to pick ships in the point cost people will want to draft. But like, a lot of this whole list is just crazy options kludged together with the points they have, it is going to be real interesting seeing some of these things roll out.

I'll give you the Fearlessness/Deadman Kickass. More fun though would be a G1A with Rage, Electronic Baffle, and Deadman Switch.

There is a huge amount of control in the builds - which should make for good matches.

They also spelt Kihahrahbsnrxxmxklmx wrongly, but I'd be surprised if anyone could get it right.

Weren't these voted on by us?

On the other hand, I at least want to see (assuming FFG doesn't epic fail streaming again this year) these guys do cool stuff with these ships.

Make them too casual/janky and all you'll get is the players flying their 77 point squads while the mandatory points of dead weight do nothing all game.

I definitely miss the TIE punisher. Missed opportunity there. Some of the builds are quite fun. I love how two different mini builds have Targeting Astromech for the Rebels. Love that little droid! Also - Y-wing with Proton Torpedoes! Awesome!

Pffff....i used this Tie Advanced build since wave 7. Did not submit cause i though it is too old and every1 already played it.... yea right....

Why even care what they fly? After last year's very disappointing invitational, with no cover at all from FFG, I don't care even a little bit. All that hype and awesome system opens (again with no cover from FFG), and then nothing.

I like the Suicide Kihraxz Fighter. That looks fun. I also like the Ion Scyk.

Too good options for participants:

HWK with TLT & vectored thrusters, Royal Guard PTL, AT, Baron with PTL prockets, Concord Dawn Ace with standard issue.

We will see if players will get creative, or just go easy with auto includes.

I just heard about all this yesterday. Apparently reading the forum three times a day or so is not enough exposure to have learned about any of this 77 squad stuff.

Did they already do that wierd tournament they were talking bout last year with some voted on ships that were not actually very good? This sounds similar.

The 77 plus idea was horribly executed. The first article they did no one understood what they meant by it all and the submissions were done through twitter which a lot of tabletop gamers don't use. No one really cared about this format. Last year, most people cared and then FFG screwed it up by not getting the paperwork in time to stream the event. Hopefully this year they at least finish strong.

Also: very little information when voting started, and absolutely no info about when the voting windows will close. I missed some of the votings, as I cannot visit FFG daily, cause not every platform works with Asmodee's pages.

And as last year, as this is a voting, many people vote for the most competitive option, not the most fun/challenging one, where we could see what an absolute top player does with.

As well as, that some of the builds were submitted by Heaver, Tofs and more (which I can't remember that this was announced beforehand, I had liked to submit something for these fighters too) and these spread quite a bit, some are janky and really interesting, while others are just boring waac stuff. Some streamlining here might have been advantageous.
