The Dusty Nomads OOC

By Benjan Meruna, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

This is a closed PbP game. We are currently NOT recruiting new players, sorry!

IC thread: https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/topic/246608-the-dusty-nomads-ic/

Current players are:

@Richardbuxton: Shishi "Droid Lord" Ren, a fugitive Gossam Scientist, on the run for a crime someone ELSE didn't commit as well as just existing in general. (http://swsheets.com/c/xkuo2a3az-shishi-ren)

@TheShard: Victor Jay "Boozer Bear" Verno, an educated Ewok Marshal set up by his partner, abandoned by his fame-seeking wife, and looking for a little payback. (http://swsheets.com/c/i8v5kkthw-victor-jay-vern)

@Dunefarble: Melonie "Not That" Tarkin, an idealistic and somewhat amorous wannabe Gunslinger, hoping to rob from the Hutts and give to the poor. (http://swsheets.com/c/imunqzqrr-melonie-tarkin)

@Imperial Stormtrooper : Kara "Big Find" Farrhect, an adventurous Human Archaeologist with an itch for discovering new worlds and the drive to get to those worlds by any means necessary. (http://swsheets.com/c/q6p5uz1vn-kara-farrhect)

Destiny Pool: 2 Dark, 3 Light

Current waiting list (2 players max):

@Edgehawk

@DragonDust101

Game info:

  • Starting level characters with base 15 obligation.
  • Era is is 2 BBY
  • All EotE and AoR careers are available. FaD careers, Force Sensitive Emergent, and Force Sensitive Exile are currently not available.
  • Gear is rarity 6 or below. Nothing Restricted unless you can make a reeeeeeally good case for it.
  • Only houserule I have is for Autofire. When using Autofire, you 'call' the number of shots you're making and which targets are included in your sweep (base difficulty will be set to most difficult target to hit) and upgrade the difficulty of your roll that many time.

The first question for you guys: who wants to be a Bounty Hunter, and who wants to be support team? Remember that being a Bounty Hunter doesn't mean you have to take that career, nor does having the career force you into a Hunter role!

I had been following the Sparrowhawk Grey thread, and would be interested in participating in this pbp, should an opening present itself.

Full disclosure: I am pretty new to this system, and have thus far only run adventures for my son... but I would appreciate this opportunity, and I can manage a post every day.

Thanks.

Sure thing, Edgehawk! If Imperial bows out, then you're first up.

Edit: Imperial confirmed, but you're still first on the waiting list!

I'm leaning toward a greenhorn bounty hunter - thinking gunslinger. Someone who's seen a few too many after school cartoons and showed just enough natural talent on the gun range to convince themselves 'I can do this! I'm gonna be a hero!"

Re: Shard's post in the sparrowhawk thread, the character I'm creating could really go either way, so I'm open to bounty hunters or smugglers.

Edit: *waves hand* you never saw that typo.

I'm not against the idea of people being a bunch of smugglers. After all, no one said the Hungry hunters in the game name had to be you guys...

I'm thinking of an Ewok tough guy whose been raised off world and has no idea what ewok's are supposed to be, in fact he has no idea what an ewok is,a jawa terrorist, a noghri trailblazer stranded for a decade on a desolate and isolated planet, former imperial deathsquad member whose now sort of a pacifist trying to atone for his past. Or ill play a duo with someone, one an enforcer, one a marshal.

Yeah I want smugglers on the run!!!!

Initially I'm leaning towards Verpine, Polis Massan or Neimoidian. An intellectual, I think Scientist (although I'm going through another couple of specs for ideas), perhaps an ex Coroprate employee who was fired and bared from the corporate sector for some unfortunate and unethical practices.

Im wanting the character to be a Mechanic with a focus on Droids

Richard, Imperial, do you guys have a preference RE: Bounty Hunters vs. Smugglers?

I'm happy either way, both are interesting to me.

What do you guys think of a Wayfarer? They're kind of oddball ships, which I like, nice and roomy, and it could be fun trying to track down parts for it, given that it's a little bit more uncommon and probably not standard.

I really really like wayfarers. I think there a really interesting ship with a lot of cool potential... also lots of room for Droids!

I don't have a preference. If we went bounty hunter, then I would probably want to play some kind of tracker, probably Big-Game Hunter. If we did smugglers I would probably want to play an Archaeologist or a Slicer.

As for the ship, wayfarer could be interesting. But if we wanted to go sil. 4 then we could go with the YV-560, it has sensor range long, and still has a class 2 hyperdrive. I don't know if it would count as "gear" but its rarity 7.

It looks like we have more demand for Smugglers than we do Bounty Hunters, so smugglers it is!

Regarding the ship, I'll leave that up to you guys. Something with a floor plan is always a plus, however.

Oooo archaeologist! You should!

For the Ewok I was thinking about rocket racoon mixed with lobo as inspiration

Rocket Raccoon make me think of the Heavy career, though that might be less fitting for smugglers.

I was thinking personalitywise, but smugglers still need protection!! I was really thinking about an ewok marshal taking up with an enforcer for like a good cop/bad cop face duo...

Well, Marshals can play either role, and in fact get Coercion over Charm (thought they get that one with Colonist). They also get Deception and with the upgrade in Cunning that Ewok's get, he'd be pretty good at that.

You'll also probably have to have a secret project that increased his intelligence worked into his backstory, to explain him functioning on a "normal" level for sapients. I never thought I'd find myself saying this, but...Yub yub, Commander.

My thoughts for now are a Gossam by the name Shishi Ren. He was once serving his indenture to a corporation as a researcher on prototype equipment, based on Coruscant. With the end of the clone wars his entire race became criminals, many being captured on the capital. Shishi was lucky enough and had enough contacts to escape off world, loosing all contact with his family in the process.

With nothing to his name and nowhere to go he fell in with a group of ruffians and scoundrels, his expertise in creating something from nothing proving very useful.

The character isn't actually finished yet, the story needs more depth, there needs to be a motivation, and I still haven't increased/chosen Obligation or spent money.

If anyone has input or ideas then let me know.

@Benjan Meruna what's your stance on crafting at character creation with the credits for gear? I'm thinking this guy tinkers with everything and could have a couple of simple tools, possibly 3 monotask Droids as well as an Energy Pistol.

I can just buy some gear if it's your preference, but custom/prototype gear is this characters shtick.

Well I figure it's not lack of intelligence, its lack of culture, mathematics, philosophy etc. He was stolen as a pet by some imperial scout who was looking an out of the way location for for future imperial protects. He ended up burning their house down. Became a local lawman in a way way way far flung outer rim dump.

If we're on the run, I think it would be interesting to be on the run, near the border between the outer rim and wild space. It would give some interesting smuggling jobs, and a chance to find some interesting stuff in wild space.

This has nothing to do with how excellently the location would fit the character I'm thinking of... :P

Which is?

I recall a Wraith Squadron story where the Empire basically pulled a Rocket and cybernetically enhanced an Ewok to a higher intelligence...but honestly, it's all Legends, and I can buy that an Ewok taken as a cub could be taught to speak Basic and live in the greater galaxy.

I'm fine with it, but you'll only get the one roll for each piece of equipment, so be warned you might be left with subpar results. I love the character!

Hit me! I had a location in mind to start with (Gerrenthumm to be specific) but as with everything else, I'm open to suggestions.

Regarding the ship thing, however, I'm thinking it's a bit specialized, especially given the varied nature of the group that's shaping up. It's easy to explain why someone has a beat-up old junker of a freighter, it's a bit harder to explain why they have a much rarer, specialized ship.

I'm still working out the details, but the starting spec will be archaeologist. Probably one that wants to make a big find, but has taken up with some smugglers, either as a pilot, or possibly melee expert, so that he/she can get the chance to make to find.
