Help needed for a returning veteran!

By ab10acl, in X-Wing

Hello fellow pilots!

Its been six months since i last played x wing. I had to have a break due to the birth of my first little youngling.

Before i stopped i was decent. Made the finals in a few store champs, making cuts at regionals and was generally there or thereabouts.

But things change so quick. What do i need to know before i enter my first tourney back at the end of the month?

Any tips with whats being flown, whats changed?

I ve always loved to fly a bit of everything and keen to try out some of the new ships

Most of all its great to be getting back into this awesome community!

run

(toung-n-cheek of course ?)

Welcome back!

most of what you need to know is in the recent FAQ here: https://images-cdn.fantasyflightgames.com/filer_public/0f/f4/0ff434bd-c3aa-4f0f-ac36-f0703cb8f276/x-wing_faq_v432.pdf

There have been four major nerfs recently involving Palpatine, x7, Zuckuss, and Manaroo.

Current high level meta has a lot of Attani Mindlink lists for Scum, and heavy duty ships protected by Biggs for Rebels (Biggs and Kanan has been popular, and him with Miranda and the Stresshog have won two system opens recently). Imperials appear to still be regaining their footing after the nerf, but there are some promising results from TIE/sf lists, though not a lot of high level success yet. As always, there are random lists that will pop up in top cuts that are none of the above.

Personal opinion picks for ships that seem to be doing good in the current meta for each faction is the Lancer for Scum, the TIE/sf for the Imperials, and the K-Wing for Rebels.

This is a brief overview, and hopefully other users will fill in the gaps. Once again, welcome back and congratulations on the youngling.

Rebels = Bombs, TLTs, Biggs

Imps = 6+HP Ships and Missiles or else lots of fire power i.e. Sabacc

Attanni Mindlink w/ 3 or 4 ships for Scum.

That is basically what is going on. If you cant take Attanni Mindlink, you are worthless in scum faction pretty much.

PTL Aces are practically non-existent. Carnor and Inquisitor popup time to time. Imps need to survive bombs so they need HP, which means Defenders and S/Fs are popular. They also have to get through Attanni Mindlink token stacks which means 2 attack dice F/Os and other TIEs not named Omega Leader are all but out of the meta.

The rebels are in bomb mode because there are a ton of token stacking going on with Defenders free evades and attanni mindlink, and there offensive action economy compared to Imps and Scum is a joke otherwise, so Bombs and Defense is there gig. Biggs and Kanan or Sabine and Kbombers. Dash/Miranda. etc. Heaver along with the new FAQ brought stresshog and rebel control, so expect to see that a lot right now.

The new FAQ opened the door wide open for a lot of lists, so it's a great time to get back into the game!

Summary: We have survived bump and stress-resistent Defenders, endless Zuckuss, astral-Manaroo-Atanni madness and Dengaroo. Now things are coming back to normal again. Good time to re-join. Welcome back

First, start posting about what you think should be nerfed, especially if you're a rebel-only player. Heh.

I've had a bit of success with protectorates without mindlink. Fenn + PTL = good times. Plus, you get to worry about them getting squished, so that's fun. My next goal is a list with the three named protectorates.

Tie s/f's are also good times. Scyks will get some good pilots, too. Lots of fun.

Truthfully, while I'd prefer a very soft TLT nerf and the JM5K be banned... the meta's pretty good right now... I'd just rather a more iconic ship than the toilet seat of doom or the frell'n K-Wing from no time period anyother ship is really from (maybe E-Wing), be the top top tier ship

If you want to win, play Mindlink Scum or Miranda Rebels.

If you want to have fun, play Imperials- but only play other Imperial players. It's a blast!

Really I like playing against almost anything other than mindlink, KWings, or multi TLT builds...

@ab10acl what are some of your typical/favorite list types?

6 months..no problem - the 3 torp-uboats you played are back again top at the meta, winning the big tournaments, just with mindlink instead of deadeye.

On example is Jesus Gutierrez list winning Tattoine:

If you only own two jumpmasters, then add Palob with a TLT, or if you just want to have some fun N'dru with missiles.

And if you only own one or perhaps even zero jumpmasters, then ...... wait!? You dont own at least two jumpmasters?!?

Technically, the winning list at tatooine isn't a 3 torp uboat list. It's a 2 torp uboats + croissant blocker.

Thanks everyone!!

@Lobokai i really like to play a vit of everything. Ive always tried to take a different list to every tournament ive entered. Probably my most successful lists were either poe ello and a friend or attani guri, zuckus, talonbane. Was thinking maybe tring the new shuttle and a sf just to try some new ships

Well an upsilon and 2 sf certainly can work well. If you've got a pair of strikers, LWF is a great mod for the SF pair... and strikers play a little like a poor mans Tie Phantom.

I think 4 x Tie Bombers can do really well at the moment.
