Tier 4 makes no attempt to justify itself against the other Tiers. Thus, EVERYTHING is good!

Tier 4 is the proper tier, it is concerned with fun and enjoying the game rather than nerfs and buffs and tournament records. We get to fly amussing missions, battle ships on a grand scale, play 1 man or 2 man squadrons in ace duels, role play, and just generally love the game. All are welcome to join.

Do you really think top tournament players aren't having fun and enjoying the game ?

There;s a tendency in competitve environments to have a focus on winning, and fun comes from the difficult pursuit of the win. Casual players can have fun without looking for victory, which I believe is what they were getting at.

I agree, but that doesn't mean playing in a tournament is any less fun (which the post I quoted seemed to imply).

If they weren't enjoying themselves, people would stop coming to tournaments.

How about 3 rookie t-65s and Braylen?

Hello, do you have time to talk about our list and standard The snapshot Juke A wing?

This goes back to the thread about dropping out, however. Why would you want to drop out if you were having fun, even if you were losing? And if the answer is you were no longer having fun, and wanted to do something else at the convention, I'll bet it's because you were not winning.

And in any event, this is a thread is about celebrating those who play XWM without needing prize support or hashing through the meta.

So ? Why does it matter ?

The point I'm trying to make is that the vast majority of the guys coming to a tournament come there to have fun playing x-wing (why else would they be there otherwise?). What specific thing they find fun varies from person to person (might be winning the tournament, making the cut, beating your personal record, meeting people or whatever). Key thing is they're all there for fun. In regard to dropping, people drop when it's no longer fun for them. Do casual players not stop playing when it's no longer fun for them ?

Given that most casual games are not 12-48 hour events, I doubt it. I'll concede when it is obvious it is a done deal, but I'm not sure that is the same thing. Although, I suppose it is, since playing on would just be flogging a dead horse, and not as much fun.

So there you have it. Can we go back to celebrating casual play?

I feel that the tournament play can lead to an unhealthy amount of frustration. It makes the game become a type of work. I think that there is absolutely enjoyment to be had at that scene, but from what I read it sounds like it produces the majority of the vitriol as well.

I think the lines between "tournament player" and "casual player" are waaaaaaaaaaay more fluid than they're generally presented. The problems tend to arise when someone gets a bee in their bonnet about The Correct Way To Play X-Wing and starts attacking the straw men on the other side of the actually-mostly-imaginary fence.

But anyway sorry for getting derail-y. To try and get this back on track: you know what looks ****ing awesome? A bunch of goddamn TIE fighters trundling up the board in formation, that's what looks ****ing awesome.

Well, if were gonna pepper this thread with music videos, that sound like a call for Faith No More:

Do it. Something's need to be done at least once.
