ROODY-POO squad bases

By SgtWaka, in Tide of Iron

I've been experimenting with magnets on the squad bases and metal washers on the bottoms of the infantry. Sometimes the magnets fight, but its alot faster to set up the game.

Som 100_0334.jpg e of the magnets will fight and you can't get 3 in a sector.

They are a little better on an A&A map

I have changed magnets, from those overpowered goddy things. I got some 25mm flex magnets from Litko and they work great!

aplauso.gif Great work...good that you posted the name of the company which produces that magnets...wow... never heard fron them. At the moment i am writing my own WW2 Tabletop Game... an they have some nice and usefull stuff.... thanks mate!!!

The A&A map you refer to has better detail than the original TOI map board, what are you referring to & where are the available at?

I believe that one came from the A&A expanded rules/map pack. It has 3' hexes.

What the devil! sorpresa.gif Magnets and washers! sorpresa.gif

Why not just get a 5/64ths (I think that's what size I used- check carefully before you go and do this, I did mine a long time ago, and I could have the drill bit size wrong) drill bit, they're like less than $2 bucks, and it takes less than 10 minutes to drill out all the bases!?!

Wht would you drill out the bases? I have enough problems with units falling off when being moved.

I saw that posted on the BGG boards about some guys drilling the bases out and i thought they were nuts. Half of mine were falling out when they were brand new! sorpresa.gif

The first print runs of the game had the bases not have large enough holes to fit the soldiers pegs, and some pegs were even breaking off when one would try to take a soldier off the base.

Well that explains why i've read so much about drilling the bases. This is a simple system, allthough i can see why it can't be produced like this. It would be alot more labor intensive, and expensive to place metal in the mold at the bottom of the soldiers and a magnet base, but i am sure they knew from the start that the little wieners on the troops weren't going to last long. For me this is an easy fix and well worth it. It is alot faster to assemble your squads and remove them during play. As far as cost, the magnets are &12.00 per 100 from Litko Aerosystems, and they are self-adhesive. The little #6 washers from the hardware store are about &3.00 per hundred and a bottle of glue is a couple a clams more. gran_risa.gif

Yeah, the little nobs on the TOI figures are scary...when i am playing with some "special" people, i start to perspire when i see how they put or take out the figures on the base.... every single moment i am aware to hear an awsome sound of breaking a soldier into two pieces... preocupado.gif
