Painting, Priming and Base Coats

By jonboyjon1990, in Runewars Miniatures Game

Hey everyone, looking forward to picking up the game in a (hopefully) a few weeks, but I've already begun thinking about painting etc.

I plan on painting both the Humans and Undead in a color scheme very similar to those in their official pics - Blue, Gold and White for the humans and Purple, Silver and Bone for the Undead.

What are people's thoughts on priming and base colors for those schemes?

For the humans I'm thinking either a blue primer - benefits are that it's the main color so saves lots of time, negatives are it might not be a great base color for all the metallics.

For the undead I'm thinking a metallic silver primer, because so much of them is the armour, but again it may prove a problem as a base color for all the light bones.

One guy at my FLGS is painting up their demo copy and he spray the undead brown, and is drybrushing them up to bone and then doing all the other detail work.

Your metallics shouldn't have an issue on blue primer as they're typically very pigment heavy. As for the undead, I too am basing them (via airbrush) a very dark silver (gunmetal) then going back with Rakarth flesh for the bones. Really, depending on what line of paints you're using (i mainly use citadel) as long as you put down 1-2 thin coats of a pigment heavy base color over another color you should be ok. Just try things out, that's really the only way you're going to learn how your colors work

I always use black or white primer and then paint the rest from hand.

The humans I want to do with dark black metal and then dark purple , red or blue so that they hav something like an evil look.

Skeletons, I really don't know yet maybe something turqoise for the cloth and metal or bronze for armour and perhaps purple or I also thought about doing whit for the armour so they look like good guys.
