Some question about rules

By MasterHamsterMathster, in Twilight Imperium 3rd Edition

Hi!

Im new to these forums and Twilight Imperium since my girlfriend gave me the game as a present last christmas. I'm from Quebec, so english isn't what I can call my main langage: i truly hope you guys will be able to understand what I'm trying to express.

Here's the deal: I don't get the new text of the Advanced fighter technology card. It seems that there is what they call: a system's fighter capacity. Does this mean that a system with only fighters in it can contain a maximum numbers of lonely figters (not supported by a carrier or a warsun since the technology allow the to be indepedent from their old mom-ship :P )? Is there a maximum of fighters per system, supported by car/WS or not? If no, I dont get that: ```Fighters in excess of a system's fighters capacity count towards your Fleet supply limit``.

And another quickie: Is the Naalu collective able to retreat with their racial ability as many times as they want, even in an unactivated system? If yes (they way we played it for our first game), they are a pretty annoying opponent!

I live in Quebec city, Canada, and i feel alone as a TI player. Are there some players of this gem around my spot on the forum?

Thank you for the answer and I'm sorry for the multi-subject post (the main point is about that famous system's Fighter capacity tough).

Welcome!

Normally, a fighter can't survive without support from either a carrier or a spacedock. So for example, in a system with 2 carriers, you can have a maximum of 12 fighters. This number (12 in this case) is called the "Fighter Capacity" of a system.

When you have Advanced Fighters, it's only the fighters which are in excess of this capacity which count towards fleet supply - the others use the support of the carriers. So, in a system where you have a carrier and 8 advanced fighters, you'll need 3 fleet supply - 1 for the carrier, 2 for the excess fighters.

Naalu - Yep, they can retreat into any system which contains no enemy units. It is very annoying. :-)

The Naalu special ability has to (I believe it was ruled this way) be used, if it is going to be used, before any other pre-combat effects (anti-fighter barrage, etc.). They also have to retreat using normal retreat rules (including tactical retreats if you are playing with that variant). Thus, they either have to retreat to an adjacent, already activated, friendly or empty system, or they have to retreat to an adjacent, unactivated friendly or empty system, then take a command counter from their strategy allocation area and place it in that system. The Naalu retreat ability does not allow Naalu fleets to retreat and then move those units (again).

Thank you very much! I now understand how advanced fighters works perfectly!

But I still have a question about the Naalu racial ability: can they retreat, when not using the tactical retreat rule from Shattered Empires, in a friendly or empty adjacent sytem that has not been previously activated? If the answer is no, that would nerf that always-run away ability that can be pretty pretty annoying at times...

Thank you again guys!

There are only two ways to retreat: the normal way, to a previously activated, adjacent, friendly or empty system, and the tactical retreat: to an adjacent, friendly or empty system, which is then activated with a command counter from the player's strat allocation area (required). If not playing with tactical retreats, the Naalu player can only retreat to a friendly or empty, previously activated system. They cannot retreat to a system that has not been activated, that would be broken.

Thank you Broken!

Sadly, we played our first game with a broken interpretation of this racial ability: my brother was able to run away at every attack! That was VERY frustrating. Good to know that I won't endure this again in my future games!
