So what's you plan for collecting SOR, and the wave after

Nor is $140 a reasonable price once you do the math unless you believe a seller is entitled to 50% profit. Stores can purchase boxes at $70-75 per, even assuming a generous $30 for shipping and fees, that's $35-$45 return on each box. I'm not sure what business you work in, but that rate of return isn't a reasonable expectation.

Lets see, what is retail, $108, plus $30 in fees and a couple of bucks for the trouble of packing everything up and sending it off in the mail. Do yourself a favor and keep selling $3 dollar drinks for $15, cause you math sucks.

Where did I say my expectation was for it to sell out within a month or two? Wow, just wow.

Why are you using $108? Stores aren't purchasing boxes from their distributor at $108, they'd only be purchasing at the price if they were purchasing from other retailers at full price. Stores get boxes for something in the realm of $75. You're making the assertion that the sets overproduced and some stores have gotten too much stock in, yet you seem to think they didn't pay wholesale price for that stock? Stores are not buying at $108 to resell at $140 on Ebay.

Posts ago you acted as if it would be a negative if Wave 2 didn't sell out before Wave 3 is available. At that rate you are expecting this set to sell out nearly as fast as Awakening did which took about 6 weeks. If you're expecting each Wave to sell out before the next hits you are expecting this set to be virtually unavailable in retail in 2 months.

$108 is MSRP, the standard price to sell. The math says $140 isn't price gouging if selling on ebay despite the sticker shock. Unlike bars, game stores really struggle with the bottom line. They really need a few of these collectable products to really increase in value in order to make a profit. They don't get the 200-500% mark ups some other businesses enjoy. The problem here is you feel you are some how entitled to wholesale pricing. I think we all would like to have that but it comes at the cost of no one to sell it to us.

If wave 2 doesn't sale out, then you end up with product saturation. Wave 3 would linger around for a long time. On top of that, all the distributors hoarding product right now will try to unload all that excess stock. At that point you'll see ebay pricing get closer to the wholesale pricing.

Not jumping into this but I do want to say that MSRP is not 108.00.

The packs at 3.00 a piece x 36 comes to 108.00 the actual MSRP is 89.99 for Destiny boxes. The idea introduced by FFG that you would get a discount for purchasing an entire box you would get a few packs free as an incentive to buy in bulk.

These sites that have 107.99 crossed out and "our price" marked at 99.99 as if they are doing us a favor are disingenuous at best.

Well, none of my LGS's do any discounts whatsoever for buying in bulk.

The real advantage of buying a box is that you're guaranteed 6 legendaries. Anytime I buy from a display box that's been opened, someone's already picked out all the legendaries.

It's not supposed to be an LGS independent thing it is the MSRP set by FFG. If your game store is selling a sealed box above 90 bucks they are selling above retail. Of course with the demand they can and will do such things.

That is a scummy tactic that I can go on forever about. Pulling and tracking then combining leftovers into a single box culling the legendaries so they can sell them as singles, but that's another shady practice that's been going on since the early magic days. If you buy from an open box your chances of pulling out a legendary is greatly reduced which is why the sealed box product is in such high demand with a guaranteed six legendaries.

My LGS sells sealed boxes, but at the singles rate (still $3 each). It's kinda lame, but if it's what's available, I'll take it. When stores limit to 12 singles/day, I'll buy 36 singles over 3 days anyway. I wish I got a discount, but c'est la vie.

Yeah it isn't fair but if you want to play you got to pay.

I planned on 2 boxes with buying 3-5 packs at all the different local game stores where I play (or just frequent). I ended up getting 3 boxes because I couldn't pull a force speed to save my life. I still didn't get a force speed with about 4 boxes worth of product (including the dozen extra boosters I won between a couple of different release events). I ended up buying the last 6 boosters from my in-town game store yesterday and got a force speed, so I have stopped buying. I do enjoy creating decks of cards and selling those as well (They are cheaper ways to get into the game for people, and I get back some money for my rares/commons/uncommons).

I am hoping again to get only 2 booster boxes for each release (about $200) but at this point I am so far in, I will see what happens.

If I can still sell my promos and extras for $300-400 per release, I will probably buy in every time.

This has kind of been my strategy too! I'm hoping I'll be able to get rid of all these duplicates some day. I guess if this game lasts as long as MTG has, I might even get something for them! But yeah, to get the dice, you kind of need to buy several boxes every time. I also really enjoy trading, so maybe I can get rid of my Rey and Kylo duplicates sometime down the road when new core sets come out.

When Awakening first came out MM and the other big online etailers were offering that price. Their pricing is always below MSRP so they can under cut the competition. Other than that, I have no idea where you got that number. No one is selling for less than MSRP right now, which is $2.99 a booster and to be specific, it is $107.64 a box.

bought my awakening boxes for 85 a piece and sor for 75

I don't think I'll ever buy a BOX again. 2nd time I bought one and only got one card I really wanted... (I'm very picky)

3rd set, I'll pick up a Saga Set and just trade for the extra legendaries I need with the Legendaries I never use.

2 boxes of Awakenings to get me rolling, and found a box of Rebellion tonight. Rogue 1 is my favorite film from the saga, so I had to get one despite finances being tight.

I am not getting more because the two friends I play with only have so much. I desire to stay balanced with them so it is fun and matches are competitive.

works for me.

I was feeling cruddy for having so many wasted duplicates from buying 3 boxes. Went to my LGS tonight and traded stuff with my buddies. Got enough stuff to build dozens of new decks, and I'm down to only a couple dice duplicates! So, I guess my strategy now is, buy plenty of stuff, be open to trades!

Just picked up a box this weekend at my LGS that was 84.99 which is the MSRP according to the owner, which I consider to be a reliable source. He is in the business to make money so that's where my mystery numbers come from.

So as to "No one selling for less than MSRP" you are correct sir MSRP is 84.99 most are selling at an inflated cost due to supply and demand. Does not change the fact that MSRP is 84.99 just shows what people are willing to pay with a shortage of product.

Yeah, MSRP is the 108, however on most blind/booster products when there is a good demand, but plenty of supply most retailers give a discount in the 10=20% range so you'll buy more. However with the scarcity of SWD so far you'll be lucky to get it at MSRP

Wound up with a single box, and bought about a dozen singles(mostly characters, 1 upgrade) to round things out. May buy a handful of boosters to try my luck for lure of power, force speed or Chewie, but overall I'm pretty content with SOR. missing quite a few Awakenings cards though, so may get a few more boosters of that as well

if the game devolves to 1 deck then i may not buy anything else and just sell, i don't want to spend a day at a tournament playing against Poe/Maz, i dropped X-wing for the same crap

People thought the same thing about Jango/Veers and it didn't happen. Just give it time.

I am going to continue to collect and stay current. But I won't buy everything. Just updating my decks has required a large connection of SOR cards.

I got a box + some packs from Awakening -but still miss helluva things, so im thinking about another one, or just some blue singles that i miss since they can rise in price instead of dropping (hello Poe im looking at you)

From SoR im yet to buy a box and then we will see - depends on the drops :)
