So what's you plan for collecting SOR, and the wave after

By MandoBard, in Star Wars: Destiny

Thought it would be fun to compare thoughts and notes and figure out strategies. Overall I play for fun, and thankfully I have a solid FLGS which means I'll have a chance to buy a box or two. I got most of what I wanted from Awakenings from some lucky single pulls. This wave only characters I need are Chewy and IG-88(well and I'd like Palpatine), and I'm mainly after some upgrades to round out my deck(got plenty of Yellow, but I'm weak on my others). So overall I plan to have some good trading material this wave, although I may save it for the third wave. So I'm saving up for 2 boxes, and a handful of singles since I'm pretty lucky at the draws. I'll buy one, open it up see what I've got, and if I'm good just get the singles, if I'm not I'll buy the second box.

So that brings me to my overall strategy, I've been enjoying playing the game at my local store, but I don't plan to drop cash into the game indefinitely. I want a good standalone endpoint, which I think I personally will reach at the end of wave 3. If it really is Rebels focused like the rumors say, I'll probably buy 2 boxes and trade for as many of the characters as I can. Then I'm personally planning to call it quits. I'm moving from where I am by August and I don't know if I'll find, or really want to continue in competitive gaming where I end up. However I do know I'll want to be social, so I'd love to have a great standalone Destiny collection. While I didn't get everything I wanted from awakenings, I don't really want to pay for anymore.

So what's your plan/approach?

Pre-ordered a Team Covenant Saga Set.

Going to weigh the value of 2 of the same legendaries in my decks and make purchases accordingly.

I got 3 boxes on preorder and that will be it. Might buy a pack here and there but that will be it. Anything I don't get will be traded for.

Will play competitive play when the chance comes up. I play at 2 different stores on different days which makes it beneficial to play more and see different decks.

Reason I'm doing singles is I get crazy luck, and my store gives 10% back from each purchase, so I've currently got about $30 worth($40 after the box) of store credit. Although depending on what happens between now and then, if I have 75% worth of a box or more of credit, I may just grab a third box instead. But odds are I'll get a second box. We have a nice little group too, but it's not too consistent(and I'm several hours from any other game store)

With the Wave releasing this thursday, thought I'd bump up this thread. My plans have reduced, I've already payed off my one box. I got really lucky too, I'm out of town half this week due to my Sisters' graduating from college, so I was going to miss my FLGS's release event, but turns out the store owner is out of town too so it's pushed back to the following week. Which means I'll have a chance to grab 3 singles at least, although I'd like to do 6(then if I don't pull any legendaries, another 3/6.) then that's it for me with this run. Got 4 legendary characters I'd like, and with the total of 11 legendaries in the run, and 6 in each box, odds are I'll pull least one of them(Chewie, IG-88, Obi-wan, and Emperor Palps)

So what are you guys planning to do?

Buy stuff and have fun, keep doing this until I stop having fun, then I stop buying stuff.

pry that my stuff gets in

I ordered 4 boxes! The value of the boxes is much more than singles....

Then I will try to "exchange" what I have most with what I don't have or have the few

I've preordered 1 box for the start and then I will buy some packs and do some trading. I'm going to win few packs at FGLS in coming months :-) I think 140 packs is my goal for this set.

For SoR I'll buy a box and then a few boosters and singles here and there. I care more about getting all of the characters.

I bought 2 boxes of awakenings, and traded for what I needed. I'm going for 4 boxes this time to get a full set and have extra rares and legendaries for my playgroup to use as they need.

Ordered 4 boxes, buying one on release day. Planning on trading/pulling what I am missing at later dates

I am hoping to get 3 boxes on release day then I will probably pick up 2 more through loose boosters and boxes then trade for the remaining things I needed including a Force Choke and Promotion from Awakenings to finish off that playset.

saga set this time around - will see how it goes. I do love opening packs though :)

I bought about two boxes worth of Awakenings boosters and two of each starter set, and I'm probably going to buy two boxes of SoR. Once my collection reaches critical mass, I'll cut down to one box of each wave and hope that my older cards are still interesting to newer players, and I'll try to trade them. I'm not a big fan of singles - seems like a waste of money at a time when the game is still young and people will be willing to trade for anything just to get more cards.

As far as completely stopping buying stuff, that's probably not possible if you want your deck to remain competitive. FFG usually wants people to keep buying, and games have a constant power creep... that's the case in X-Wing at least.

Well that's why I'm only playing through Empire at war. After that I'll stop playing competitively, and just have a for fun casual collection for with friends.

Also I imagine power creep will be more gradual with this game, with it happening every starter series, rather than every set.

I buy singles on line for what I need. I got carried away with Awakenings and have 4 full decks and almost every card in the set. Several duplicates and multis. SOR is gonna change my decks and there will be a lot I won't want to play in the new Meta. I may try and sell the money cards I have in two's and keep only one in my Awakenings set for collecting purposes. My fear is that when SOR comes out that Awakening's rares and legendaries will go down in price.

I'm giing to try and get a complete set of SoR, just like I did with Awakenings. After that will depend on the health of the game and the content of the next set (I don't mind Rebels characters).

A Saga set is your best bet for value, two is ideal if you want a full lengendary playset and extra rares to use for future trades or to sell and recoup some of your expense.

The limit of 6 legendaries per box means you need 6 boxes to cover all the legendaries and trade your duplicates. That leaves you with a truck load of unwanted commons and the need to trade for each legendary. Saga is cheaper and more reliable.

I am unable to get saga, so had to settle for 2 boxes. The single purchases are the grind, as the stuff is way over priced. I eventually got a playset of awakenings but at a high cost. Do not see myself keeping up with full sets.

I feel the same way. I am so close to a complete set of Awakenings, 2 of every thing, and then some 3's and 4's of stuff to make 4 decks. Much of this will be put into the binder as multiples, more than two, once SOR is out. I think the ones I have more than two of are probably not worth more than about $50 total, maybe a bit more. They would be way more valuable in trade. I think I am gonna have to buy singles of just what I need to keep the decks current.

Hopefully the Awakening set does not become so weak that it is a collectors piece only. Because the dreaded cycle of over paying for singles will start again. I too love opening packs but I don't have a group to trade with just my son and wife. It would be way more fun to trade.

I went ahead and did the Saga Set and if I am happy with it I will look into seeing if I want to do two for Empire at War and be done with it. I have three boxes coming in on Star Wars day with one full box going to my friend in TX. if he is unable to get a full box on May 4th (that is what friends do.).

I've got a box on order at my FLGS. Will probably buy boosters after that.

I all fairness I only want 6 cards from this release: 2x Palpatine, 2x Force lightning and 2x Force speed.

The rest of my ePalp deck can come from Awakenings.

I was supposed to be getting one from my local store but now they seem to want to be hoarding them.

They Will be loosing my money by this choice because now I'll have to set something up with a place like Team Covenant to insure that I'm not left dangling on the future.

As planed, walked in this morning (without a pre-order) to my LGS and walked out with a box and a few boosters. :D
