Haarlock, Children of the Kingdom Illustrations?

By noysh, in Dark Heresy Gamemasters

Does anybody have an illustration or an art they used to describe Haarlock's 'Children of the Kingdom' from the House of Dust And Ash adventure in the Disciples of the Dark Gods? Or are the covered in one of the other books and I just missed it?

I Find the description in their entry and 'blind and vaguely humanoid' to be unsatisfyingly abstract.

Welcome to Warhammer 40,000 :)

We all have the same problems. With the "Children", with "Grox", with "Auto-Quills"...
But in the case of creatures, I say this is not that bad. After all, Hollywood provides for all our needs in the "creature-feature" deparment.

If I might provide some non-official ideas:

These are pictures from the 80s B-Horror-Movie "CHUD" (or "C.H.U.D"). This is how I would depict the "Children of the Kingdom". The second picture should make a good b/w print-our...after some tempering with it, of course happy.gif

Very nice! Nothing can beat 80s horror flicks like this for inspiration.

Thinking about the description listed under the entry in the scenario, it lists the 'Children' as "Crawlers," with a "Toxic Bite" and "Sonar Sense." If you put the composite parts together you probably have a segmented monstrosity with either a tail or a centipede like body, and a maw of some kind that generates a toxic bite. I pretty much pictured an armoured CoC style miniature Cthonian, with an elongated muzzle, and a mouth that splays open, a little like a Skag in the console game 'Borderlands.' The Ag value indicates it can get a wriggle on pretty **** quickly when it needs to, so it would slither forwards to bite in close and maul with its fearsome strength. A swarm of these things is really intended to slaughter most of the humans pretty quickly - their original location, somewhere out in the Halo stars might mean that the horror of their appearance is also warp linked, literally searing the eyeballs of those who gaze too long at them - in any case, if your Acolytes are getting a good look at them they are probably not running quickly enough in the opposite direction!

I thought of something a lot like the lickers from Resident Evil 5.

If you've ever played the game, then you also probably know the way these guys move, crawling along all surfaces and whatnot. Again- how I imagined the Children of the Kingdom.

While I only know them from the movies, this was the type of locomotion I expected them to use as well. Not that "jumpy", of course.

I think that one of the items, Xenoflesh Mask (IIRC the name) is actualy skin from the face of Child of the Kingdom it contains some of its description. Altough I´m not an expert in Cthulhu I always imagine them similary "nasty" and "fleshy" as Deep Ones and their hybrids from Dark Corners of the Earth. Just they are crawlers and such.

Thanks for the suggestions! This is perfect!
