Some Rogue One Star Destroyer stuff

By Ophion, in Star Wars: Armada

Many people are probably already across this, but there is some cool Armada-related stuff in the Rogue One ultimate visual guide....(These would be awesome in some sort of expansion).

- Darth Vaders star destroyer is the Devastator which is an Imperial 1 class (well duh), its the last of the Imperial 1s commissioned at Kuat Drive Yards prior to production of the Imperial II. Devastators captain is the 'competent and fiercely focused Shaef Corssin'

- The star destroyer posted above Jedha is the Dauntless

- Tarkins star destroyer is the Executrix, captain Hindane Darcc.

Which gives us 3 titles for a ISD-1 expansion, with new stuff to match the release of the MC-70 for the Rebels from rogue one at the end of the year

Given that the ISD-II expansion already has a Devastator title, if a new one is created with different stats, we'd have a certain amount of room for confusion.

then the chimeara may fit then, and add a new paint job other than the main colour, so it's easier to distinguish

I would like to see Shaef Corssin as an officer upgrade card at some point. What do you guys thing he would do? I personally think he would have a discard effect where for one of your attacks, you could discard Shaef Corssin to get two red attack die. After all, the Devastator jumped into the Rebel fleet and immediately overwhelmed any remaining Rebel ships with massive forward firepower.

May work better. The Chimera's new paint job is mostly on the underside - but if the face of the bridge tower can be more overtly "Devastator-ish" like the Rogue One Star Destroyers are (different detailing), if it has triple engine vanes, if it has big double-barrelled turrets, and if the domes are noticeably larger and panelled differently, as well as being on either side of a tall targeting array - then the ship can be recognisable at a glance.

Do you mean if you stick your nose to the model and not at a glance? None of that will be visible at the table.

The turrets will. If the tower's differences are done in a fashion that stands out a bit - exaggerated detail, somewhat "deeper" than on the real thing, that'll be visible as well.

So under studied vision then, still not passing the glance test (instant recognition)

The thing is. I don't believe ISD-I's differences are recognisable enough by the majority of people to grant a re-done miniature. You can say that they could do a different paintjob to add the Chimera and add Thrawn. But A new paintjob doesn't mean a new minature. Just look at the Royal TIE Interceptor. It should have gotten the small winglets but they just painted the regular TIE Interceptor red (and I would say the winglets of the TIE Interceptor are more noticeable than the ISD-I/ISD-II differences).

And yes, they made the new TIE Fighter, X-Wing and Millennium Falcon. But it's not the same, Rogue One is not as big as The Force Awakens and the differences are not as recognisable. For example, the Micromachines Set of Rogue One still had a ISD-II.

There was a theory floating around for a while (based on the unusually large bridge module on the Dauntless-type ships in Rogue One) that those ships were much smaller than "standard" ISDs and should represent a different class.

However, I personally put the bridge module issue down to artistic licence - they wanted the bridge big enough for the windows to be seen in close-ups.
