In Which Shmitty and Truthiness Reveal Their Mean Prank on Biggs! Steel Squadron Quarantine Thread (April)

Super good article, Shmitty. I find it extremely interesting the huge preponderance of ISDs in top Imp lists. Not that I'm surprised, given its fantastic activation concentration. Nor do I think that anyone in the entire community minds seeing more ISDs on the table...

I mind.

Sincerely, a Rebel only player in a heavy Imperial meta (jokingly of course. More ISDs means easier targets for my MC80s!)

Images of the ISD Devastator still fresh in your mind? :D

The Devastator? That's one of those KDY titles that doesn't actually exist from FFG, right? Kinda like the VSD Dominator title?

Side note: I have a buddy who actually does use the Dominator title. It is amazing up until it realizes it has no shields and then it has a large SAD. Now that Jerry exists, though..... But I've never actually seen the Devastator.

RAM THEM

Huh, that's an interesting build. I haven't seen CR90Bs built for ramming with Madine before. When you get some spare time, could you explain how they are intended to be used and why they're included in the fleet? I'm curious about them.

Well at the end of turn 3. RAM THEM

Activate Reinforced blast doors

At the start of turn 4. RAM THEM

Can either coordinate to cripple a large ship. Solo kill flotillas or mc30s.

Liberty sweeps behind clearing the mess.

As I said after the vassal world cup, RBD means Rieekan isnt required for Crambo90s anymore. :)

Since he is mid tourney and unlikely to be able to answer you in the near future, ima take a stab.

Based on his previous posts, I'm guessing they serve the following purposes;

1. Flotilla removal

2. Activation Fodder

3. Auto damage to weakened targets

4. Blockers

I'm sorry, you must not have gotten the memo, but Peltas with squadrons are invincible. We're going to have to fix that first round score.

Using Dominator without a couple of support ships running projection experts? Is he mad?

We didn't have an Interdictor back then or anything worth using projection experts. It was a simpler time, with generally 3 ships a side. So wave 2 iirc

I understand how ram ships work, for what it's worth. I meant it more as:

  • Why two of them?
  • Why specifically with Madine instead of other options for the same points cost?
  • What's the intended use? What do you feel they address specifically? Are they being used very aggressively overall or more cagey?

Basically just curious about those types of things, really. I'm down with ramming, so I can see the appeal. I just haven't seen Madine with ram CR90Bs before, much less two of them, and it intrigued me.

I know when I see Peltas with heavy squadrons across the table from me, I should just instantly concede. I also have it on good authority that it's invincible.

I forgot to concede at the Milwaukee Regionals and won against a Pelta squadrons fleet (7-4, I think? Maybe 8-3?) and then I faced another one at Adepticon and forgot to concede and then tabled it (10-1). I'm very forgetful about these kinds of things but I'm trying to get better.

Very aggressively.

Two is perfect.

Either, work together to target a single ship, aka Demo.

Or one on each flank picking of anything that trys to go wide. Sheep dogs keeping the liberty front arc locked and loaded.

Madine gets them out of trouble and makes them unavoidable. Its really glorious to watch.

Two is just glorious.

Iirc you beat me 8-3, but I took Demo out of a lot of the game. If you had conceded, it would have saved us both some time. And me my ships, womp wuh wommmmmmp.

9-2, 4-7, 5-6, 10-1 from Truthiness I think. 28 total after 4 rounds which is pretty good.

I hear there was a max CRambo90 list flying around too. Interesting to see how that did.

8-3, 4-7, 5-6, 10-1 for 27 and 5th place. The ramspam list didn't make it above me and my round 3 opponent was #6. The Rambos were fantastic for so much more than the ramming. I love them with Madine. So damned flexible. I killed all but one flotilla I faced. The Liberty, however, felt like it was the weak point. I think Admo might be replacing it in the future.

If you were willing, I know I'd read an article about how the list works/worked with some longer explanations about your list choices for everything.

Sure. Give me some time to digest the day and work through some of my many mistakes =)

Great article Biggs

I too very much enjoyed that. Nice to see quality v quantity discussed.

Nailed it.

I am just disappointed in the title.

Efficiency versus Effectiveness

Much more catchy and uses a catchword of last week.

I dunno. When I discuss these things I use quality v quantity so I prefer it the way he wrote it.
