In Which Shmitty and Truthiness Reveal Their Mean Prank on Biggs! Steel Squadron Quarantine Thread (April)

By BiggsIRL, in Star Wars: Armada

Oh boy it's a new month and that means a new thread! What fun surprises will we write for you folks this month? I've got something about Squadron Task Forces that is being proofread (yes, you read that right!) that should go up soon. Truthiness is putting something together about his upcoming tournament today at the Stele Open. Shmitty is lurking ever in the background, coming up with something much better than either of us could.

Any ideas you want to see us try to tackle? Let us know in the comments. Maybe we'll even read them!

Maybe a walk through of Shmittys regional data with a succinct "what does each piece of information mean" alongside what the big picture takaways regarding the stats are for each of you?

That's the plan. Just need time to put it together.

"Useful Armarda links" could probably do with mentioning can't get your ship out if your lookign for suggestions. Love your site and content.

Fixed (the draft is written for posting the morning of the tournament, hence the confusion)

Oh, and the last thing to go up was theories about a pocket carrier, but you'd know that if you read the old March thread. But we need a link...

I already made this argument before lol. I wish I had an imperial variant of the AFmk2b.....

Nice article Biggs. I really like this concept. I often fall into the trap of just throwing a bunch of points into the squadron game. I need to take another look at my lists and apply these thoughts to them.

You guys should write an article about flotillas. It goes with the "FAQing Flotillas FFS" theme we have going on this week.

Here's a brand new article on how to mitigate an opponent's activation advantage:

I'm loving that brand new article from February 2016 :D.

Seriously, though, I fear this becoming a new battleground for arguments that are currently roiling across three different threads. It's consuming everything.

That's great Biggs, but you yourself pointed out the staggering power of activation advantage that flotillas have inflicted on the game in this new post right here:

How can you say this is not a problem while also pointing out the very effect that flotillas have definitely brought down on us and wasn't at all in the game from day 1?

"Through the ages, I've seen evil take many forms. The Sith. The Empire. Today, it is the Flotillas. Their shadow is spreading across the galaxy. We must face them. Fight them. All of us."

This is indeed too funny.

And that post now exists: http://xwingtactics.blogspot.com/2017/04/looking-at-regionals-data.html

Rad! Thanks Shmitty. I look at your data and my eyes just.... kinda gloss over... exciting to see it in a form I understand! Letters!

Understood. Let me know if there's anything else I can translate for ya!

Added a quick paragraph to the end that I had forgotten to write initially:

Quote

I wanted to add that when I look at the data as a whole what I really see is a well balanced game with a variety of effective strategies. At this point I don't even track fleet archetypes as I don't feel it is particularly useful. There is an awesome variety of fleets that do well in these tournamnets and is speaks to a good job by the game designers.

Posted here in case you missed it there.

Shmitty thanks for writing this, I've been looking forward to this. I think your most interesting conclusion is that the numbers of fighters is staying the same but the points people are spending on them is increasing. One thing though, there's no Sato on your Admirals by wave table.

I'm only highlighting the Top 5 admirals per wave in those tables. Sato doesn't make that cut.

Super good article, Shmitty. I find it extremely interesting the huge preponderance of ISDs in top Imp lists. Not that I'm surprised, given its fantastic activation concentration. Nor do I think that anyone in the entire community minds seeing more ISDs on the table...

It's one of those things that was surprising, but fairly cool. In Wave 5 at least, it was the Liberty giving large ships a bad name.
