Next Purchases - Fielding Two Meta-ish Lists

By ArbitraryNerd, in Star Wars: Armada

Hey all -- without going into the city of Boston itself (about an hour away), I don't really have ANY opportunity to play Armada (I play X-Wing & Destiny at local stores), so I figured it's probably time to get to the point where I can field two players myself, and recruit some friends to get into casual Armada. I'd LOVE to eventually turn it competitive, though, hence the "Meta-ish" in the title.

Basically, what should I purchase next, especially on the Rebel side of the field? I have:

Core Set x1 (Really not interested in a second, I've grabbed additional dice & maneuver tool already)
Imperial Star Destroyer
Victory Star Destroyer (Expansion)
Gladiator
Raider
Imperial Squadrons x2
Rogues & Villains x2

... That's it. I stopped buying when I realized the local scene was drying up, but I'm still really interested in getting into the game, I just won't be driving into Boston for events while I'm still very much at the casual level. So my Imperials may need some updates, and my Rebels are... well, I really only want to play Imperial, which is why I've not made any additional purchases on that side (I did grab an auction for some alt art... something or other. I forget. It was an upgrade that was only in a Rebel expansion, but was great at the time and came out in a tournament kit).

Any next step suggestions would be welcome!

So I'd recommend that if you want to set up another player, start by picking up some Rebel ships.

My first picks would be an MC30, Rebel Squadrons 1 & 2, a Rebel Transports flotilla, and the Home One expansion. I'd also consider picking up the core ship expansions (especially Nebulon-B). The Nebulon-B expansion comes with some good neutral cards and two incredible titles that are currently having a strong impact on the Rebel game meta, Yavaris in particular.

If I had to recommend another ship a newer meta pick is the Phoenix Home expansion. It has some interesting effects, but it is not a gunship and should not be flown like one.

Finally, pick up the Correlian Conflict campaign expansion. It's a great way to introduce players to the game and also includes new objectives and unique squadrons that are tremendously effective in the existing meta.

How about a casual Armada game at Battlegrounds tomorrow or next Thursday? :)

Haha this weekend I'm probably booked, and next Thursday is the start of the X-Wing League, so I'm a bit locked down, but I would LOVE to get a casual Armada game in soon!

... Just know that I've yet to actually get the ships on the table, because the one tournament I was going to, I got an emergency call as I walked into Pandemonium (I think it was Pandemonium that time).

X-Wing is still my main game, but Armada is extremely appealing.

Where are you located?

Metro-West of Boston -- my FLGS is the Norton Battlegrounds, though TJs in Milford isn't much further away, just slightly less easy to get to... because Milford.

Ah I am in Connecticut about an hour south of Hartford. Too far to add another player.

I would say

2 Mc30

2 Rebel squadrons

Home one

Assault frigate mkII

As for imps

I love the imperial light cruisers

I have 3. I would suggest 2

I'm in Littleton near Lowell. I've only played at home with my friends that I make play... Haha. I have a large collection ( at least 2 I of all expantions, 3 of some) I don't know when but I would be interested n playing a casual game at a gaming place sometime. There are a couple near me but I would travel, doesn't bother me.

Man, it has been a LONG time since I lived up there (13 years to be exact), and the last time I was up there I found out the game store I used to frequent in Worcester is now a flooring place or something. Turns out there's a newish place in Auburn though (The Batte Standard), they don't seem to have an established Armada night, but maybe that's worth a look? Don't know how far from that area you are.

No need to pick up any doubles of ships and squadrons you already own from the cores when you are playing casually - just proxy them. Download the pics of the cards from the warlords builder and scale to 60 percent when printing.

Apart from that: MC30!

Home One is worth the pickup, after that, 1 mc30, a Neb B, Flotilla, rebel squadron pack or two. After that, grab what looks fun. C C is worth it as well. But not necessarily a must.

Good point. Proxy cards may be a good way to go. Check out KDY for printer friendly proxy cards.
