Lt Blount Rule Clarification. Two rerolls or one reroll with 2 die?

By aaronsa86, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

I had the situation come up in a game tonight where I rolled 2 double hits and a blank. I re-rolled the blank per Lt Blount's ability and came up with an aim which was useless to me since the ace target had double braces. But was told I could only make one re-roll.

  • Lieutenant Blount Z-95 Headhunter Squadron

"While another friendly squadron with Swarm at distance 1 is attacking a squadron, it may reroll 1 die (in addition to any dice rerolled from Swarm)."

Icon SQKey Swarm Swarm : (While attacking a squadron engaged with another squadron, you may reroll 1 die.)

My question is this:

Are these two separate events? Or both resolve simultaneously? The "in addition to any dice rerolled" part is somewhat vague.

The rules book states "Reroll: When a die is rerolled, the attacker picks it up and rolls again. A die can be rerolled multiple times "

In my situation above do I get two separate chances to re-roll the blank dice? Or are my options simply: reroll two at the same time (no benefit to doing this), reroll only one, or choose not to reroll at all? In this situation, it my have meant Maarek Stele would have gone down in flames instead of having 1 health after his brace.

This is a separate effect that does not modify Swarm, it only requires that the squadron has this ability. Note that the triggering condition is different (to get Blount's reroll, it is sufficient that the friendly squadron is attacking a squadron - Swarm further requires the presence of another friendly squadron engaging the target), so the abilities must be assessed and applied independently.

Thus, you can definitely reroll the same die twice, or both once, in any order you like.

Otherwise Blount would be worded something like "Other friendly squadrons with Swarm at distance 1 may reroll 2 dice (instead of 1) while attacking a squadron engaged with another squadron."

Or "When another friendly squadron with Swarm at distance 1 rerolls 1 die, it may reroll 1 additional die."

Or something like that.

Simply put, you get 2 rerolls.

1 from Swarm.

1 from Blount.

Much like stacked BCC let's you reroll multiple times. Different sources means multiple triggers.

You would only get 1 reroll.

If I understand you right you were attacking using Blount. His ability specifically says while "another" friendly squadron with swarm at distance 1 is attacking a squadron...

This means his ability does not affect himself, only other squadrons due to it saying "another".

The only reroll you should have been able to use is the swarm one.

He didn't say it was Blount attacking, he said "per Lt Blount's ability." You're right in that, if it's Blount himself attacking, he doesn't get his benefit and the whole question is OBE.

Assuming you're following the rest of the rules, though--e.g., that Lt Blount's ability actually applies to the attack in question--then yes, Blount's ability allows a second reroll of the same die.

Correct it was another Z-95 within distance one of Blount. Both were engaged with the TIE defender and within distance 1 of each other

Also on a side note, What is "OBE"? Overcome by events?
