Starviper Misprint?

By ExAce, in X-Wing

I just got 2 Starvipers and noticed something odd when comparing them before opening the boxes. One seems to have been painted upside down in the factory. Is this a common occurrence or is this something I shouldn't open and it would potentially have some resale value?

Notice the guns are not in the same place and the peg for attachment to the base is on top for one and on the bottom for the other.

I know it's probably not worth anything, but I figured I would check before I opened it for the autothrusters.

I noticed that also with my two. I have one from when it came out and a 2nd I got at the tail end of last year. I don't think their anything worth more the what someone wants to pay for them. Just remember you can't sell on this site so you want to list it somewhere else.

Oh ok, guess I'll rip it open later to get my autothrusters. Thanks!

Lol. The true value of this expansion!

Wait, you get a ship with autothrusters too?

I believe all of these ships are done by hand with stencils - so it's extremely likely for one to be painted upside down, especially one like this has such symmetry.

Dude! Next time I buy a Starviper I'm going to look for one that's misprinted like this. So cool!

Really? That seems like a lot of people-work that could be done by machines (though I approve of having people working). I am interested to know how you learned of this!

One of my Starvipers didn't have half the cockpit painted so I had to finish the job.

They mentioned it at one of their in-flight reports at GenCon, and I think they gave a presentation about it at Star Wars Celebration two years ago.

With how different the ships and how (comparably) small the production runs are it is very likely cheaper and easier to have people do this instead of a complex machanic solution. We are still talking about workforce in China, after all. Actually some Kinder Suprise toys were hand painted for the longest time, too. I don't think they do that kind as much anymore, though.

I had a HWK with two left engine fins.

Star Vipers are notoriously known for bad paint jobs.

They are known for anything that is not bad...? :D

(Except ATs ofc)

the best misprint I ever saw was a Royal Guard TIE with the wings glued on backwards. It looked amazing.

That takes some doing, those wings have a key on them to stop that happening o_O

If you weren't on the other side of the country I would offer a trade for a normal one lol, but it'll end up costing too much in shipping to be worth it. Still haven't had a chance to open it up, just got a bunch of other ships today, so I'm sorting through those first. I'll post a few pics of the upside down viper once I get a chance.

I could have sworn they said its just the final wash and touch ups done by hand, but i may be misremembering.

Here are the twins together. Kinda enjoying the flipped look more and more. Too bad they'll never see a game.

I WANT IT

Get any pictures, perchance?

So the misprint wasn't the point costs? I'm sure mine are misprinted, there's no way they could cost so many points

sorry, it wasn't mine. It belonged a guy I played at a tournament, this was right after Imperial Ices first arrived.

It was pretty hilarious though
