So after all this lovely hype built up by RuneWars for me I am now wanting more and thinking about picking up Descent 2nd ed to play only with the app(I have no interest in the 1v4 model and find it even difficult to decide to play imperial assault because of this...) I have Mansions of Madness and really enjoy that game and find the app to work great with it. Does the descent app work as well? and is this game as awesome as it looks?
Descent Decision...
Yes, yes, yes. The app turned Descent into one of my favorite games. Plus I'm excited to use the heroes and lieutenants as alternate command models in Runewars.
Hi Jek!
I have to agree with Jason; Descent with the app is just fantastic.
Well thank you @JasonGlass and @Sorastro you have given me enough of an extra push. I had the 1st edition, never played it then sold it a bit ago, actually made back my money too...but now I wanted to give this a try still and with really liking the mechanics from IA but not that 1v4 aspect and really liking the app system in MoM this just seems like I could get into the game and enjoy it more than before (also the games being shorter is nice since I think descent 1st ed a game was usually like 2-3 hours..)

Also my plan, I've got a tremendous amount of descent miniatures that i want to insert in my house ruled game of runewars. I just hope they won't stop producing descent stuff for both the app and the fisical collection, I need more campaigns like seeds of corruption and I need some adventure with the utuck XD
If Descent had a skirmish version like IA, I'd be all in, but we didn't care as much for the IA campaign mode, so not sure we'd enjoy Descent

I didn't like IA campaign mode either, but really did enjoy IA 1v1. I absolutely love Descent campaigns though. And we did make up our own arena rules that worked okay, but was more silly fun than a really competitive, balanced game.
I'll 3rd the goodness of the app, and also the very fun co-op adventures.
If FFG doesn't release a skirmish version of Runewars at some point in the near future, I will probably work up some rules of my own. I'd love to see something like HotAC for Runewars.
I think it would be cool once enough heroes are out to make a skirmish game based on heroes and a small group of soldiers raiding stuff...
Totes using my Descent stuff in Runewars. As I've said before, Zarihell is going to stand in as a necromancer (awesome fig btw)
I'd like an app for Imperial Assault. Despite buying all the expansions we are still on the core box campaign!
Late to the party, but I'd have to second all of the positive comments for Descent 2nd Edition with the RTL App...
I sold my original Descent 1st Edition and 2nd Edition, as neither scratched the "dungeon crawl" itch...
Based on the App alone I repurchased 2nd Ed and haven't looked back ... it's absolutely fantastic. I love playing co-op with friends and family, but even more being able to crack it open and go for a solo bash whenever I feel the need is great.
I absolutely love everything about Descent. I also really enjoy Imperial Assault but there's just something about a dungeon delve that feels right. The lore of Runebound is actually really good and you can learn a lot from D2E. I CAN NOT WAIT FOR THIS GAME!
It's pretty legit, although I do wish it had more role playing/puzzles/choices. The app is well done though; the ability to play cooperatively or even solo is a great feature.

Sorastro can we ask you to post a pic that show the differences beewtween descent and runewars minis? I'm talking about base, scale and potential compatibilities
@jek I've got a full collection of Descent 2 at home because of the App. This game is just the one game about runebound that has a massive scale... ok maybe not but it is, to me, a better game than Imperial Assault who brings its own rules improvements. Descent 2 begins to get old but the App gave him a new youth and I enjoy myself with my four orcs party that falls into every possible trap or to every possible enemy. Yep it is a lot of fun.
The best game in the runebound settlement for me so just go in and have fun my friend. Tell us what you think about it.
A skirmish mode involving individual units would be a great thing for Runewars, Hope they'll add it at sometimes. As well as a scenarized campaign... otherwise, I'll have (and many among us that are interested in a campaign mode) to write it down myself... my thesis or a runewars campaign, my thesis or ? oh ***
Late to the party but yes, Descent 2nd edition is awesome!!! In fact I am playing the Delve (randomized dungeon crawler that lets you progress through an entire campaign level of rewards/exp in one 'session', approximately 3-4 hours depending on your groups speed) tomorrow night with my group.
But honestly jek don't let the 1vs4 aspect of IA turn you off on it, in my humble opinion IA is superior to Descent.. I love the fantasy setting, but prefer IA's game system. They are similar but just enough tweaks to make them very different. Playing as the Imperial in IA doesn't have to be all about winning, I play it as a GM, I make it all about having fun. I try to keep my campaigns as close as possible for W/L ratio, but generally I just focus on taking every mission down to the last die roll, then win or lose both sides had fun. But if your group REALLY doesn't like the Imp side of things, then yes play Descent, the co-op variant is great. Full length campaigns, the Delve as I mentioned before being a randomized dungeon crawler and literally just seemingly endless amounts of content to work your way through.
All that being said, a co-op app is confirmed for IA (actually confirmed, at GAMA), just no date yet (come on Star Wars celebration!) so you might want to start stocking up on it as well
Edit: Here is the link with FFG confirming the app 'is still coming, we're still working on it' at 3hr40min, spoiler tags for size. From the look on his face he is excited, but knows he just can't say anything yet. Expect a big announcement soon though. Those of us over on the IA forum speculate on this daily, pouring over every little ounce of detail. We have deduced the next small box expansion will be Endor, rounding out the OT. This will have a Villain pack (made up villain like Somos, Terro, Sorin), a Rebel Hero (POSSIBLY General Solo, hoping for Wicket or an Ewok hero pack) and an actual canon villain (4-LOM and Zuckuss would round out the pattern of including bounty hunters in each box). This was backed up with the recent anouncement of the player mat, which comes with the ID code SWI50. We are currently at SWI45, meaning there are still 46, 47, 48 and 49. (Small box, 3 blisters). We've used this method to accurately predict waves before (TS was a 4 item small box wave). THEN instead of doing a big box in the winter like they have done for the past 2 years (Hoth and JR) they will release the app. This will allow us to recycle all of our OT content in the form of co-op app content. The other option is they have a small box planned before/after Endor (could possibly a Death Star expansion) and will break Zuckuss and 4-LOM up into separate boxes, releasing one which each. This might mean the app just comes out of nowhere like it did for Descent, or is still a lot further off than any of us think.
If I remember correctly, RTL was dropped during a pretty big content drought for Descent, which makes sense as it is a major item. Which makes me think that we will see the app in the winter, after a full 6 months of no expansions. This all lines up with the departure of a major team member, Paul Winchester, which was last year, and we knew at that time the OT content was 'pretty much done' (I think they have a blister wave planned between the summer and winter release to round it all out, probably with Yoda and Palp). We also know from other developer interviews that they are generally a year out from design to release, so this would all line up with Endor being the summer box. But again, despite how much evidence we can draw this is all speculation. We've been pretty close so far though.
I really hope that someday we see an IA campaign app that works like the Descent and Mansions of Madness app, especially if it supports 1 v AI. I think FFG is on the verge of having some really fun fusion of the group play dynamics of boardgames with the accessibility of video games. There is nothing concrete yet of course, but we can hope!

They mentioned it during the in-flight report last GenCon. There were no slides and no official announcement, but Christian Petersen said they were working on an app for Imperial Assault.

I think it's more likely it heads towards Rebels territory before Endor. Although a small Endor based campaign could work.

Rebels and Rogue One go together nicely too...
I think it is likely they are working on some Rebels and/or Rogue One stuff right now (we just got Hera and Chopper announced as a blister pack), but given the pattern we've seen so far (Core = 1st Death Star blows up, Tatoine, Hoth, Bespin, JR..) logically the next step would be Episode VI content so either Death Star, Endor or a combination of the two.
I am not totally convinced that Rebels is popular enough to drive its own box, but very likely we will continue to see them released through blister packs. Rogue One is basically Imperial Assault in movie form so it really fits the bill and would introduce some new Storm Trooper units. Hopefully down the road we get to see some of this content.
Here is a 15 page thread going into detail about the speculation of future releases:

@FrogTrigger I have imperial assault and enjoy it but I like coop, I have been a GM for a lot of games so I thought the 1v4 would be fun but to me I don't really like trying to kill the players as much as creating a story to play through. I'm going to get descent definitely now that ih have only received overwhelming praise from a out of people's who opinions I trust.
Not to mention the RPG potential of a collection of Descent, RWM and maybe a few other special piece figures from the Runebound Universe, I see them as a good buy as there's a wide range of gaming styles they suit based on personal preference(s), plus they're flexible enough to adapt/houserule/ otherwise adapt to the games you like to play.
Until FFG realise the crossover potential and RPG potential there are ways to make things work, I imagine there are RPG systems that would fit for example.
Wouldn't surprise me to eventually see a Runebound Universe RPG system from FFG at some point in the future though with all the lore and figures already out there to work with.
