Rebel Captive versus Vader

By Admiral Deathrain, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I think I want to run a fat turret for once. I hate the archetype, but my Decimator is a beautiful ship that has seen the table exactly once“ in the Hoth campaign. So state of the art is this, right?

Rear Admiral Chiraneau (46)
Predator (3)
Gunner (5)
Rebel Captive (3)
Hotshot Co-pilot (4)
Engine Upgrade (4)

Countess Ryad (34)
Juke (2)
Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)
TIE/x7 (-2)

Total: 100

I know some people believe Kylo to be good, but I don't. Vader and Rebel Captive both offer more against the lists this is weaker to (Captive annoys K-Wings quite a bit and can rob them of their shots, Vader is more of a general damage tool). Vader has good synergy with HSCP, since he rewards missing for Gunner, while Captive has the upside of not killing you.

I don't know if I prefer the agressiveness of Vader or the ease of use of Captive.

Another question: Wingmen. Juke Riad is the no-brainer choice as she is so obviously good with HSCP, but what other choices make sense right now? I don't like Interceptors as they struggle to put out damage (maybe if the Deci gets Vader, though...). The Inquisitor probably is too cheap. Would a non-Juking wingman push HSCP out in favour of having both Captive and Vader, maybe?

I feel a bit dirty thinking about this :P

Personally I've always preferred Vader but I thnk Rebel Captive is in the ascendant now thanks to the x7 nerf, rise of Expertise, and action requirement of Kylo.

And if you care about MoV, really, REALLY don't use Vader, last time I used him in a big tourney I did significantly more damage to myself than my opponents did...

I use Rexler as the wingman with just Juke - my logic being that he out-PSes most other Defenders, and out-prices most of them as well, so he wins out in the mirror match if it comes down to just two defenders.

I also tend to use VI rather than Pred. PS10 arc dodging is tough to beat.
