Lore Time

By Waywardpaladin, in Runewars Miniatures Game

So I just finished reading the Lore document from my box.

Some interesting points....

Forge is still a city with a lot of dwarves making cool stuff for the Baronies.

Interesting write up about Waiqar pretty much saying he is the good guy, Timmoran was a jerk, and that everyone should just give him the shards so he can wisely look after them.

I was hoping there would be something like that.

Cool call back to the Undead faction in Disk Wars and explains them joining forces with Waiqar.

Uthuk apparently thought to be completely extinct, have just moved back to the Ru. Only the elves have noticed them, a Daqan explorer had just finished investigating it some decades before and saw nothing, so they are pretty unprepared for the Uthuk coming home.

Elves sound pretty regretful for their standoffishness, looking to help the other races against the Uthuk.

There ARE dark elves, apparently one tribe was corrupted by the Ynfernael because they were ticked off at being booted from the Empyrean.

Elves fought a big war with them and all the magical madness is supposedly what led to humans, dwarves, and so on developing.

Elves were pretty Prime Directive about the new races, kicking themselves over that because they didn't warn them about the Ynfernael.

Was disappointed that they only talk about the Citadel and like three Baronies along with a few Free Cities. No real mention of color schemes and the like.

there was an enemy card in runebound 3, "deep elves" so i am hoping we get them as a faction. of course i have to wait in line behind dwarves and orcs im sure!

Wonder if they will just join the Uthuk.

i sure hope not

The deep elves should be mercs that can join any evil or neutral faction.

Was there ever any doubt?

Timmoran was selfish, hoarding immense power at the expense of the common skelet...err... totally fleshy human commoner.

Waiqar is such a bro that his legions defy death to follow him. Sounds like the sort of guy I could get a beer with.

The way the Scrivener writes it, Timmoran was the one who killed Waiqar's men and Waiqar brought them back to life. I wonder how much his Death borne remember of what actually happened.

So we have preatty good chance of getting dwarfes, elves, dark elves - it sounds soooo gooood :) (of course if the game will sell good and FFG will continue to suport and extand it)

RuneWars is new Warhammer!

Take taht Sigmar ;P

to be fair if we get uthuk and latari this year (as FFG said) and we maybe (BIG maybe) get orcs and dwarves next year, I think the earliest we could even think about expecting deep elves is 2019 and rather than that they will probably develop the other factions more before working on something mostly new.

6-8 races should be the maximum limit to keep them updated and competitive. As said before that year we get 4 races, maybe just maybe 2 more next year. I don't think we will get something more before 2019 neither.

They said that? That's great, do you have any source?

This is possible, but it is still good to know that faction of this kind is already there in the universe. That makes it much more possible for dark/deep elves to hit the shelfs than something compleatly new like, let's say Lizardmen or Mud Monsters etc.

ive heard it a couple places, the gamma video and somewhere else a representitive said the goal was to have 2 more factions by the end of the year. also there was a poster showing 4 (daqan, waiqar uthuk, latari) (wow spell check does NOT like that)

I was told two more factions this year during the demo at Adepticon as well.

Lizardmen exist in Terrinoth!

If they expand to fast you will have the situation the 40k and WFB were in where there was just a rotation of broken factions...2-3 factions being obscenely powerful and the rest falling somewhere on the scale of meh. Lets just hope they focus on 4 factions for now and GRADUALLY add more to it...

That would be wise and may they take some time to draw a world map because, sh!t... it is necessary now. I don't want to play a rune bound game blindly because there's no correct map to see where you are... I mean, there are maps of Star Wars, Warhammer 40k and of tons of dispensable fictional universes but not for Runebound ? Oh come on FFG I know you can do it you dirty little duckies :D

I think is common knowledge that the wfb multiple armies system did not work too well. Too many armies create a lot of umbalanced situations and force the publisher to keep his prices high due to the variety of miniatures models. The game become too expensive for many people and then kaboom-> Age of sigmar!
In my humble opinion FFG will mantain the focus on four armies, maybe, if the sells will go very very well we will see also orcs and dwarves

I think 4-6 armies is enough, for the other things you can add in neutral/mercenary units to work for the variety of factions and add some flavor... or just add heroes with similar abilities to Kari...

There is an existing race called Mahkim in Terrinoth, they're like 4 armed lizard men. I used to play them a lot in Disk Wars. They're fairly rare in the Daqan lands, but I guess in Runebound they've got a lot more of them in other lands.

From the Daqan Infantry Command Xpack, it looks like the Free Cities will be represented through upgrades. I've been thinking they could do Dwarf and Orc mercenaries the same way. Release singles packs with a Dwarf or Orc or Elf mini that acts as a champion upgrade for infantry, same as Artifact Bearer or Weapons Master adds a mini with separate stats from the rest of the unit, but it has no faction restriction on the bottom of the card or is limited to Daqan/Latari or Uthuk/Waiqar or something. I could see big warbeasts as cavalry champions or siege weapons that are Uthuk/Latari.

Yeah, I think I'd prefer MAYBE Orcs and Dwarves as full armies, but then Mahkim/Deep Elves/Dragonkin/K'ryth as maybe unit expansions that can be added to certain armies.

Like IA they may add units that can be used by multiple factions, like orc heroes that can be used by any army, or units of beastmen or deep elves that can be taken as neutrals.

Did anyone pick up on that the Humans will likely get crossbowmen ?

Hell yes! Crossbow minis that can pull double duty in Frostgrave and Runewars TMG!
