You've got 38 points for one small base ship. What do you bring?

By Vastoom, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Up coming tournament 4 or more players per 3x3 table. Each player has one small base ship totalling 38 points or less. What would you bring? I feel like whatever I come up with lone wolf is a good bet.

Lone Wolf is usually banned at single-ship events. Make sure you can use it before you include it in your build.

Assuming a ban on Lone Wolf, these would be my top picks by faction:

Miranda Doni (38) - K-Wing
Twin Laser Turret (6), C-3PO (3), Long-Range Scanners (0)

Fenn Rau (34) - Protectorate Starfighter
Push The Limit (3), Concord Dawn Protector (1), Autothrusters (2)

"Quickdraw" (38) - TIE/SF Fighter
Expertise (4), Electronic Baffle (1), Sensor Cluster (2), Special Ops Training (0), Lightweight Frame (2)

I second the builds from above, and also humbly suggest these as options:

Norra Wexley (29) - ARC-170

PTL (3)

Alliance Overhaul (0)

Tail Gunner or Nien Numb (whether you want offense or defense maximized)

R2-D2

Countess Ryad (34) - TIE Defender

TIE/x7

PTL

Twin Ion Engine MK. II

(38)

Warden Squadron Pilot (38) - K-Wing
Extra Munitions (2), Sabine Wren (2), Cluster Mines (4), Ion Bombs (2), Advanced SLAM (2), Proximity Mines (3)

Wedge Antilles - (29)

PTL, BB-8, IA, Proton Torpedoes. (38)

you could also run with VI and an initiative bid to troll ps 10 and 11 arc dodgers

Deathfire (17)

Extra Munitions, Advanced Proton Torpedoes, Homing Missiles, Cluster Missiles, Cluster Mines, Guidance Chips. (38)

There's no way in hell you get it all off, but you have a little something for everything. Cluster Missiles for K-Wing or any other low agility ship. Advanced Proton Torpedoes for that one time you stare someone down R1 and actually get to shoot. Cluster Mines to push damage through when someone gets behind you. Homing Missiles for the typical R3 alpha. It definitely won't win every game, but it would be good fun.

4-LOM (27)

Predator, Zuckuss, Collision Detector, Hot Shot Blaster, Munitions Failsafe, Mist Hunter, Tractor Beam

The ultimate troll ship. It's going to hit. And when it does they get a stress for trying to evade

And if they let you do large base......

Omicron Group Pilot (21)

Darth Vader, Kylo Ren, ST-321, HLC, Collision Detecter (38) (you know you want to. you can absolutely decimate one ship in two shots)

Asajj Ventress (37)

Zuckuss (1)

Jek Porkins (26)
R3-A2 (2)
Push The Limit (3)
Engine Upgrade (4)
Plasma Torpoedos (3)

What?

The Inquisitor (25)
Push the Limit (3)
Proton Rockets (3)
Autothrusters (2)
TIE/v1 (1)

Ten Numb (31)

Probably a TIE Defender.

But that's because I don't play Rebels much.

Actually, probably R2D2 PTL Sensor Cluster AUtothrusters Poe if can fit that.

In these single ship tournaments heavy ordnance tends to do very well. I've had great success with Tomax Bren using homing missiles, Crack Shot, EM, guidance chips etc (though there may be value in using lightweight frame). Failing that the B-Wing that can shoot ordnance out of arc is excellent.

Nien Nunb, Rage, Experimental Interface, R3A2, Pattern Analyzer, Black One. My very favouritest small based ship right now :)

I have been leaning towards using Kavil with PTL, bomb loadout, fletch torps, vectored thrust, unhinged astro and cluster mines.

Why would you use Kavil without a Turret?

Kavil with Fearlesness, Unhinged and Autoblaster Turret has the potential to get 3 uncancelable hits in any direction at range 1. You could still add bombs.

It's worth noting that because ASLAM K Wings probably don't get much of a look-in in this format, Soontir is going to be close to the top of it.

If it is a free-for-all, something non treating but tough might work.

So...Luke. PtL, R2-D2, plasma, integrated brings you to 38. Gives you defensive mods and regen, can still hit hard, but will slide under the radar for most people.

When you know you're facing small ships then Ion Cannons are overpowered, so Kavil with Ion Cannon would be tempting.

PTL VI Jake with Prockets and AT's along with a 5 point initiative bid just because you can

I would take a decked out Mist Hunter. Maybe Zuckuss with a bunch of upgrades.

In this format, I like this because you want to focus on survival at first, then have a knock-out punch at the end.

I also like a super squirrely Snap

"Snap" Wexley (28)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Plasma Torpedoes (3)
BB-8 (2)
Primed Thrusters (1)
Autothrusters (2)
Black One (1)

Kind of what I was thinking. He's not really a threat early on as he's only really 2 attack. Can move last and ust keep out of trouble and to be honest with a procket Jake I would fancy my chanes against most things as he's be an absolute pain to get in arc

This Snap vs. Jake would be entertaining. As in, "We played for 75 minutes and fired at each other maybe three times".

(37)

Palob Godalhi (37) - HWK-290
Opportunist (4), Blaster Turret (4), Recon Specialist (3), Moldy Crow (3), Stealth Device (3)

(37)

Ryad - Expertise, x7, Mk.II

Pretty powerful in a 1 ship list. You could also use Vessery built the same way- and use other peoples TLs to fuel his ability. Ryad is a more survivable option though.

If points are awarded for simply last ship standing, as much as it seems like a waste for going so far under 38, VI Duchess with title and Lightweight Frame is nearly impossible to pin down, especially since outside of Miranda and Kavil, you shouldn't expect to see any turrets.

Horton, BTL, TLT, EPT-bot, Expertise, Vectored Thrusters. Actionless Full mods on three shots a round and b-rolling fun.

(37) for Initiative.

Dengar - Rage, Inspiring Recruit, Unhinged Astro Mech, and Black Markte Slicer Tools for the PTL Aces. 38 point build ship seems hard.
