Like you all, I´ ve thought long and hard about how to improve the X wing ship for games, until FFG comes up with their official way. I always imagine X wings as looping and twirling in on their opponent, difficult to hit. However, get behind them and "I can´ t shake him" syndrome occurs... Unless you have your buddy Biggs on hand to go pop for you....
For me,
Bigg´ s ability should only trigger when the attacker is attacking from outside of Bigg´ s arc. So in that way he doesn´ t trigger on Jousts, only on flank or rear attacks from his perspective. In the movie he goes down when Vader is on their 8 to 6...
Meanwhile, for all X Wings, including Biggs, give the ship the abilty to get a free evade token at the start of the combat phase if it has an enemy in its firing arc. But, X wings can only use evade tokens against attacks that originate from within their own firing arc.
Basically the idea is to have them all great at a ´joust, or with the enemy in arc, but without any obligatory Biggs cover from fire on the joust. Biggs would then though, if you want, cover the team if it gets trailed or flanked. They are great with enemies in arc, but otherwise....
"I can´ t shake him"
This takes a lot away from Biggs but allows him to be a thematic, non OP, inclusion with his ability. He does get the buff on the joust if people choose/have to target him though. What do you think?
