With only a few weeks until release I'm starting to get mentally and physically prepared to assemble and paint my armies. Watching the great painting video of the Rune Golem brought up a question. Is there a reason the large figures like the Rune Golem and Carrion Lancer need to be detached from their tray? I'm asking because I'm thinking of permanently attaching them to their trays to give me a little more space to make a more interesting base for the big guys. I don't want to do this though if it will interfere with a certain game mechanic, but as far as I can tell it doesn't right?
Large figures & trays?
potentionally in the future? Dunno.
Interesting question. There is some discussion of that topic in this thread.
Ahh...thanks for the link to the thread. Obviously didn't see this. So storage and use the model in other games aren't really concerns for me. Is there any other thoughts as to why not to do this?

This has me a little concerned, but I still can't see how.
As it stands right now, I think you're right. There really isn't any reason not to glue them into their bases. Go forth and make awesome scenic bases!
I won't glue them for transportation reasons, easier to store
I know it's kind of a dumb question. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't overlooking something...
I would reiterate what others have said that the transport and storage are the main reasons. Other than that, there doesn't appear to be much reason not to. For smaller figures the reasons are more obvious but you should be fine on the Rune Golems and Carrion Lancers.
As I mentioned in the other thread, if you plan to base your trays you could focus on better quality and only bother basing enough trays for playing with your largest army and store the extras.
i understand the basing thing, but i dont understand the storage one. gluing to the base adds about 0.25 inches to the edge and negligible height. i dont see how the figure is harder to store when already attached to the tray. in fact i would find it easier to store which is why i was thinking of doing it in the first place.
Because I'll be able to stack the trays flat without the inserts

i understand that for the troops, but for the golem and lancer you save space by having the tray glued in because you can store them as one piece.
The bottom tray is wider than the figurine on top of the tray. So if you have a foam case, your mini will have a space around it for 'wiggle room' at the top as you carry the case, and it could tilt and bend the spears or swords and chip paint. If you have it separate, you can size the foam to fit the individual mini better, and just size for the tray to protect your basing.

ok i see your reasoning now.
