I don't think it's unreasonable. Already people on the forum are asking for alternate canon color schemes. You have an existing relationship, however small it might be with FFG. For these two color schemes, the example paint jobs are already done. The remaining work would be coming up with the fluff behind these color schemes.
Sorastro's Painting
3 hours ago, Sorastro said:On a side note - I didn't want to go with traditionally "evil" colours because In my head I liked the idea that these were once royal soldiers with their bright gold and dark blue livery, now weathered with time.
I think I'm going for red and gold or a royal purple for my undead. While painting the humans in the more evil colours as the traitors they are to Waiqar the hero.

I was going red cloth for my undead with a standard silver metal for the armour, but Sorastro's pushed me down the gold route I fear. Still looking to paint Ardus' armour red Vlad the Impaler style.
I still haven't made my mind up on the colours to use for the Lancers...

First, great, great video, the Carrion Lancer looks AWESOME!! I'm starting to really like your color scheme, if only as a starting point.
One other thing:
On what kind of underground are you playing? Talking about the grass, not the (cool looking!) props in the background. Can't tell from the picture if it's "real" grass or just painted/printed.
And did I mention the video was great?
Edited by SirWillibaldI can't wait to experiment with this wet blending tip on the undead. I suppose I can always experiment with a couple of colour schemes and then strip the paint off the ones I don't like.

Hi SirWillibald!
What you can see in the pictures is part of a roll-out grass-textured mat that I bought years ago. I just cut a piece off to give me some ground to take the shots with. For actual gaming I use Citadel's Realm of Battle Gameboard, which you can see in a couple of the panning video shots in the first episode.

Green army men! Great for experimenting, also cheap and disposable.. like grad students!
Looking over these pictures again I am just blown away, the attention to detail is incredible. They really need to be using these for their demos if they want to wow people.
Edited by FrogTriggerHey sorastros I've been meaning to ask what kind of glue do you use? I love the brush I'm sure it makes it easier to apply

Hi Klaxas! It's a thin superglue from Games Workshop. I like it

A little birdie told me they commissioned a display quality set. Shortly thereafter Sorastro posted a video brought to us by FFG.
Maybe they are the same figures, maybe they are not. *Shrug*
I just showed your videos to a friend. He is now entierly sold on the game. Good PR for the game, to say the least @Sorastro

I will be adding more orange than this, and change the cape color. What GW colors do you recommend? I also dont like mixing colors if i can avoid it, nags me when i cant match the mix later on. Lol.
Just a note here. If you use dropper bottles to control the amount of paint that goes into your palette for mixing colors. you can keep a journal of the amounts used for later replication. Army painter paints are great as are Valejo as they come with dropper tops automatically.
Edited by chaosvt80Also when you start a figure have a sheet of white paper handy. Take a stroke of your mix onto the white page for comparison if you need to go back and mix colors again.
I ended up going with Apple barrel paints for the main colors, since Walmart was closer and they looked like what i was looking for. Spiced Berry (dark red), Pueblo (dark orange) and Pavement (dark blue-grey). Ive got pics of one of my calvary, but the pics too big to put on here.
Used an Earthshade wash and xv-88 as well.

Good to know that I can use Walmart acrylics if necessary. I am new to painting and wasn't sure if those paints would ruin the mini.
Double post.

I used craft paints for my Imperial Assault figures and it worked fine. I heard from a lot of people, though, that it's more finicky dealing with those paints than miniatures paint because the craft paints are thicker and have less pigment, requiring more thinning and more layers ... or something like that. Some day I'll be able to afford real paints, but I'm stuck with hobby paints for now, too.
With the way im painting, I haven't noticed a difference. Though I mean i notice a pigment difference, the application is the same.

Nice conspiracy theory, but no - I was just asked to cover the Golem and the Lancer; I chose to paint the rest just for myself (and to make the videos a little more epic of course!)
I really like the idea of rusty Waiqar. I would love to end up with something like this with a blue-green weathered bronze palette. He has a decent rust/dust tutorial that shows how to do it.
For my Daqan I'm thinking of following FFG's 'official' colour scheme, but I want my blue armour to be metallic.
anyone have any ideas how to achieve that?
My ideas so far include:
- silver base coat with a blue wash
- GW Stormhost Silver with Soulstone Blue on top.
Also I want to follow FFG's purple scheme for the undead too, but want to make them look very weathered - here's a skeleton I painted years ago :
So something similar, but I'm worried that the rust/orange wouldn't look good with the purple

ive done this and it looks good. you could also put a gloss varnish over that.

Also try a silver with a blue glaze
or mix stormhost silver into a slightly darker shade of blue then your ideal blue. The silver will brighten it up and give some metallic flake.
i recommend trying on army men first to make sure you get something you like.
Vallejo makes a metallic medium you can mix into any paint.
