Using fake tiles

By Sir13scott, in X-Wing

So if I have sabines tie fighter, but I lost the tile can I use a fake?

Instinctively i say no, but i don't think there is a rule specifically against it.

So the dial and model are no problem. The splitting the base is a bit of an unknown for me. I'd be a bit too worried about ruining one or both sides. Plus there is the question of what the judges will do. Probably safer to buy a second base or borrow one.

If you don't get caught it's fine. But I think the rules state that essential game components can't be modified, so you're technically not allowed to do so during official tournaments.

This is the reason I bought 2 Rebel TIEs even though pretty much everything else in the pack is unique. Very clever way to sell more expansions FFG!

Not as clever as putting only 2 fixes for each ship in the Imperial Veterans box. As well as no low level generics.

So if you want the full Defender range, you'll have to buy 3 of the individual expansion, as well as 2 of the Veterans box.

Kind of like how they kept Alphas out of Imperial Aces. Yeah it might not be a good build nowadays, but there was a time in my LGS where 5 boosting 3 dice ships with AT was something to worry about. Or not worry about as getting sufficient cards was rather more expensive than getting sufficient models if you already had Aces purchased. That's why I kind of wish you could share cards for generics in a similar fashion to Armada.

@Sir13scott define competitively. Are we talking store tournament? Regional & above?

I'd say for anything Regional & above, you're going to have to have the correct (i.e. ummodified ) components. Otherwise, I don't feel you couldn't proxy the ship token as long as you have all the other components. Just ask the people you're playing against.

If you're planning on splitting the ship token for personal, fun/casual games, then go for it. I would split a regular TIE ship token too, in order to glue the Ahsoka onto an Imp and Rex onto the other to avoid having naked, ragged cardboard on the bottom side.

Just buy two copies and run all four as a Rebel Tie Swarm!!!! Or just borrow one. Somebody has to have a spare you could borrow.
