Question concerning the Talon Roll. Yesterday the following situation came up. I plotted a talon roll, my opponent guessed that was what I was going to do and moved to avoid me getting it in arc when I did it. I did the roll and did have the space to complete it, but, since I can place the ship along the template edge, could I have placed it at a point where it overlapped his ship, which would have put me in a position to move the ship back along the template to a point where I bumped another one of his ships that would have given me a shot. The main question being do I have to complete that movement or would I have the option of moving the ship to a legal position on the template to bump and not complete the mvt. We decided that I should complete the roll, but ask the forum, since it was a unique situation.
Talon roll question
If you have the space to complete the move legally, even in a location you don't want to be in, you must complete it.
Read the Rules Reference for Tallon Roll, under Bearing on page 6. You have to rotate the ship before placing it at the end of the template. If you place the ship and it fits, then completing the manuever is not optional.
Thanks, thats what we did. so it was correct. Just an unusual position that we had not encountered.
Edited by librarian101Definitely an interesting question. I'd have looked at it like you look at declaring a Barrel Roll - if you say you're going to do it and can then you do it even if the final result isn't exactly what you were hoping for.

This isn't just your supposition, it's the rules.

I can't seem to find in the rules the bit that says when revealing a Talon Roll the player must let loose with a mighty "Keekaw!".
I'm pretty sure it is mandatory.

Rules reference, page 6, last bullet point under "bearing":
"When a ship executes a Tallon Roll, it must avoid
overlapping other ships if possible. If the ship
cannot avoid overlapping another ship, it does not
rotate 90ยบ at the end of the template."
