Honest question... Has the meta changed enough that the Phantom (and scum) could wait until revealing their dial to decloak?
Are we ready to rollback the TIE Phantom FAQ?
Heck no. I don't want to put up with that again.
No way in hell.
I could see it as a pilot ability to stay on the safe side
Give it a whirl: Take "the 86" to a casual night and see how many people would be interested in flying against Pre-nerf Whisper and Echo. I love those ships and can tell you we need to keep them the way they are now.
I'd say YES ... but it seems that I am outnumered ^^
It wasn't just about balance. It was about fun.
It would make cloaked talonbane and cloaked guri more exciting. Especially with the jabba cloak.
It depends on how the new TLT meta shapes things. But if it does a pre-nerf cloak might not make that much of a deal.
Considering the trouble the old decloaking mechanics caused, I'd prefer some in depth testing before considering going back.
The salt would be amazing :-)
YES PLEASE. unnerve the phantom 2017.

Sure. On a ps1 pilot.

Well since I already flown with pre-nerf phantoms and against pre-nerf Whisper and Echo, I'm not too interested.
Now pre-nerf decloaking rules on a scum cloaking device, and just throw in a EM token on it for 6 points. (Make it take up any slot that is not a title or upgrade) and I would find that interesting. Never seen that before. I would even like to see a cloaked rebel TIE-fighter pre nerf, maybe only one game but that is it.

Sabine piloting the tie it's cloaking device and PTL is all sorts of fun to see.
@#$!, (%&^-ing No!!!!!

Haha, I never thought of that. So Sabine can decloak 2 sideways, then before her maneuver barrel roll another base sideways, for a total of 5 sideways. That's fracking hillarious! Sure - it was possible before on the Phantom via AdvS, but it requires you to give up both your action and your FCS to pull off. I don't know if it's worth it's points, but you could put Sabine and a Conner's net on for hilarity...

And that's honestly just the start. With her ability also allowing for boosts, and PTL allowing for a barrel roll after that, she can be well away from her previous location, then she gets to do her regular move.
Yeah, Sabine's Tie makes the world's most flexible blocker.
Shame it's a TIE fighter for 20+ points.

The problem with the old cloak mechanics is not that it would make the Phantom (or scum small ships) too strong for everything/anything out there anymore. I'm not even sure that Old-cloak Whisper would be a top tier pilot any longer. However! It would exacerbate the current problems of requiring ships to be able to withstand 4 die attacks, _and also_ bring back the PS race. And this time, it wouldn't be capped at PS 9- Tallonbane is a good Cloak carrier, is PS9, and can take VI. That's a terrifying combo with the old cloaking mechanics.

I never really flew the Phantom much (like maybe once) pre-nerf, so I'm a little sad I never got to try it "broken." Nowadays, it just seems like the TIE Striker is the better choice for movement hijinks.
No, because that's the wrong type of buff.
The Tie Phantom doesn't need a buff. It doesn't need anything. If it's not on the table then the world is a better place.

I don't know man, but I really think that TIE messed him up. . .
Just thinking out loud: if we wanted to add _some_ power to the cloaking action, but not bring it all the way to where it used to be, we could let it decloak at PS2. It would have some information, but not full information. It would put down a PS floor, but not the super silly PS9 floor. It also might be a weird kind of buff for Binayre Pirates.

Yeah, the Striker and the Rebel Sabine pilots are the closest we're going to get to the old Phantom. FFG realized that giving a ship that much flexibility to react to the board state at PS9 was ridiculously overpowered. Forward-firing ships simply had no chance against it.
If you want options for forward and lateral movement when the dial is revealed, take Sabine in a Attack Shuttle or TIE Fighter.
If you want forward movement at a high PS when the dial is revealed, take Sabacc or Duchess.
