UG is 2 points? I thought it was 4.

Nope, it's 2 (as spoiled by FFG). It takes two missile slots, but you don't have to buy two!

31 Tomax w/ CS, UR, LWF.

Again, Tomax = 24 pts, Crack Shot = 1 pt., Unguided Rockets = 2 pts., Lightweight Frame = 2 pts., TOTAL = 29 pts.

More of this. Unguided rockets has a lot of downsides but some folks keep saying "it's a three dice attack!" It's not: stress, red maneuver, using your action for anything else, action loss all shut it off and it makes all of your defense rolls unmodified for higher PS.

I'll give it a go on crackshot Bren because that seems a good place for it: 6hp, high PS, cheapish, used to flying him already.

They might be the best option available, to that ship, but that doesn't actually mean you're flying the best option, at that price point, available (nor make that option competetive).

The price point is in competition with a lot of solid, hold-their-own aces already, unfortunately. I love Bombers; they've been a not-so-secret penchant of mine, pretty much since release. Bren was instantly a pilot I loved. Great PS, great ability, great potential with ordnance and crew options. However, I still get much better value out of the generics. I can fully load a Scimitar for less than the price of a naked Bren, and even a Gamma Vet offers competition.

The action issue you mention is the reason I'm wondering if mass UGR will ever really become a thing. Stress dealing is already a strong option when building a list, and it would essentially shut down these guys. I can tell you from experience that a swarm of Bombers wielding their rather less than fearsome two-dice attack is little worry for most ships (although one could argue there are plenty of crew options that could fix this, but then you're dropping a Bomber to support immediately, as the choice is crew or UG). At least the Aggressors have a turret option to fall onto.

While Unguided Rockets aren't great on ships flying with Jonus, they look like they do help with one of the problems people face when including Jonus in squads. Either you make him expensive giving him ordnance or you accept that he's not going to directly contribute much to your offense with his 2 dice attack. Unguided Rockets give him a meaningful attack while not taking too many points away from the ships that he is there to support.

Y'know, I hadn't considered Jonus with UGR, mainly because I just stopped considering Jonus a long time ago. You've got me thinking now...

How many shots at 3 focus only dice are you gonna get before Xamot's brother goes down in flames?

Depends, he has 3 Agility against any 3-dice attack. If you had a softer squishier target like Omega Leader I think he would last really long.
