A little help?

By DrakonLord, in Star Wars: Armada

So I've recently been versing fighter heavy imperial list I'm having a bit of trouble with, and while I'm 90% sure it's because of my absolutely rubbish rolls lately I could use a bit of help building a counter to it.

ships vs ships in this list I'm winning quite a few of the games, but squadron wise I'm butchered every time, so just focusing on squadrons, not ships, what should I bring?

opponents general squadron list:

-howlrunner

-dengar

-5 ties

- a couple tie bombers

-decimator/interceptors/phantoms/rhymer

(p.s. I play rebels and I have only one copy of each fighters pack, plus rogues and villains) thanks in advance

E-Wings to sniper dengar and howlrunner

X-Wings to provide escort and tangle with the TIE's

Celchu to hit and run where needed

Torryn Farr to help with rerolls

Shara, Tycho, or Biggsball. They are the more versatile screens. If you add an E-wing into the mix you can snipe Interceptors or Dengar too.

Mauler with Chirpy.

Or, Turbo Ten Nunb with Yavaris + something with Adar and Flight Controllers.

Don't fall into the trap of having to kill Dengar first. The number one priority is focusing fire.

It would be, of course, lovely to kill him, but its not always possible.

If you can only get to Dengar with one squadron, his defence tokens will waste your attack, which otherwise could've removed a Tie Fighter.

In my mind, if he is really holding Dengar back:

First round of squadron fighting, jump in and focus down one TIE at a time, prioritising those out of Dengar/Howlrunner range.

If you can make this fight happen in your AA range, fantastic.

Second round, move in a HWK, then hit Dengar with everything you've got. Defence tokens don't mean anything when you are hitting him 4 or 5 times.

You are now free to kill his TIEs, lock his bombers down, and win the ship war.

If your opponent is bringing serious Imp anti-squad, it can be tough to win the squad battle. My suggestion is to let him win that...but blow up his bomber(s).

Until Sloane (Muahahaha!) his TIEs are going to be weak against your ships. It doesn't seem like he's bringing escort, so I'd target the bombers and Dengar first, and let the squadron battle go a bit there. Without Dengar his squads will be locked in.

YT-2400s totally wreck unescorted TIEs in the squad phase. Mix them in with some X-wings and Jan that can take a bit of a beating and then protect the YTs and Jan.

The best ship upgrades you can bring are Toryn and Flight controllers. Toryn is a no-brainer if you can use her for your ships as well. Flight Controllers are super sweet but might be too much of an investment for the strategy above.

What are you using for your ship fleet? I feel like a good pass from an Escort Frigate would substantially cut down on your woes here.

Otherwise, perhaps A-Wings? Those TIES do not want to be taking counters in return.

Your opponent is going crazy heavy on anti-squadron squadrons. I'd just try to bring some meat shields (X-Wings + Jan) to hold them in place while you let your X-Wings and flak sort them out. Trying to out-squadron a heavy investment in specialized Imperial fighters is usually a losing proposition but the downside to them is once they win the squadron mini-game they're awful against ships.

If they only have anti squadron then dont engage. What are they going to do? Shoot your ships.

Ooooooooh. 1 blue non bomber.

For now...

Sloan may change that for sure. It will really depend on the composition of the rest of her fleet. And those TIEs are still not big fans of eating flak to do their jobs...

I agree. This is why I'm firmly convinced that she will love the aces more than just flat TIE swarms.
