A little short for a...U wing?

By Ccwebb, in X-Wing

Just got a U wing and was shocked to see how small it is. Placing it next to the Ghost, wow. The Ghost should be epic play, CR-75 and U wing should be 100/6.

Even the Mist Hunter is bigger.

The U-wing is pretty small. But those wings would be a huge nuisance on a small base. Actually, they'd bump things constantly even on a hypothetical "medium" base.

Keeping the U-wing folded actually doesn't look nearly as bad as the lambda flying around with its wings up.

also the U-wing is about the same size as the IG2000, and I'm convinced that is a $20 ship in a $30 box. Medium bases, why r u not a thing?

yeah, ghost should have been treated more like a Huge ship, with energy rules and such. But what ya gonna do

Medium base ships-

K-wing, Punisher, Aggressor (IG), Jumpmaster, ARC, U-wing, Scurrg...

Sigh... If only... :(

I friggin hate that the U-Wing is a large base. Makes it so much more difficult to fly in formation with its Rebel buddies...in addition to all its other troubles.

uwing is one of the few large ships that actually suffer from being a large ship, while most of them benefit from it. As is if it was a small base it would probably be better, as a large base with that dial its so hard to not crash into things with what it has available and still get shots.

Ghost using energy; medium base (2 squares not 4)... careful, starting to sound like a 2.0 thread. ?

Its a bumper car. Its there to get in your opponents way for cheap.

I hate that the U-Wing has a worse dial than the Upsilon shuttle, despite being much more maneuverable on screen.

The base-to-model ratio is a secondary gripe for me.

It's painfully obvious that FFG did not/was not able to screen the movie before designing the ships. No K2 pilot or crew? The U-wing was at least as maneuverable as those Y-wings too. I had such hopes.

U-Wing was my first purchase and I still love it, but it does seem to be almost impossible to fly right. More practice incoming.

Large base without turret, oh no! Bodhi Rook is taking us back to flight school.

and VT-49 Decimator and VCX-100 should be huge ship bases. Okay half a huge ship base.

We all know that there are ship models on small bases that are bigger than ship models large bases just as there are large base ships that have more hit points than huge ships. However the large base isn't necessarily the size of the ship, it is also its movement and attack profile. Small ships don't have an agility of zero because they are small enough they can evade shots. Where as some large ship is like the VT-49 is like shooting at a train. Yeah you could miss it, as well as the broad side of a barn.

Back to movement profile large ships also have more momentum because their size of the base propels them forward. So yeah they can't go as slow as small ships, though mechanically they could go faster, however the devs should keep that in mind and make the 5 and 4 maneuvers either red or not include them in the dial.

I know the U wing pops easily and is definitely NOT easy to fly in formation with other ships, but I love the design so much and sometimes it works, like when it one shots a full whisper at range one.^_^

The U-wing is but one example of going to a medium base ship. If a x-wing V2 comes.out, this is my list.for medium base ships.

U-wing

K-wing

Tie Punisher

G1a starfighter

Eh...I don't know. Yes, the Upsilon has more options with the 1- and 2-speed turns, especially with Pattern Analyzer to get your action. But green 1 banks are pretty significant on the U-wing. And it can turn around on a Stationary maneuver with the title. The real big difference is in the health, which is factored into the cost.

I don't think I object to the size as much as I thought it would, but I've only flown it once. Large base seems fair for a troop carrier. Still, I think it will be some time before I fly it again. It didn't end well.

I was always of the opinion that the game needed medium base ships with a size between small and large:

Hwk, Punisher, Havoc, K-Wing, U-Wing, IG88 and maybe star viper.

The U-Wing can also pseudo 1k or 1sloop with Advanced Sensors and Engine Upgrade. Gorram expensive tho...
