Hi all
A quick blog post for a Sunday.

Nice blog simple and easy rundown of the two games.
Your blog entry feels like my first entry into 'Armada' (from a hundred+ plays of 'X-Wing').
That is, the 'objectives' initially feel like they are just fantastic chrome on top of an interesting system - nice variety in the game matches that X-Wing lacks. This does jump RIGHT to mind, and you note that.
That's...ummm...maybe 10% of the picture . Objectives, it turns out, ARE the game in 'Armada'. The crappiest, fan-favoritest, built-from-scratch fleet is going to win a LOT against the top-tier-net-decked fleet...if random objectives are picked, and it favors the first fleet.
Objectives aren't "chrome", here. They are the game. And I lost no small number of battles because I didn't realize that...
Thank you, it was a very clean, cut and dry break down. I've played a few X-wing games in between Armada games and X-wing always leaves me feeling a bit... unsatisfied.
The final conclusion is - let's face it - THE right conclusion
Fair assessment.
However, I don't think I'm alone in feeling defensive about Armada's often neglected status. I just want to hear FFG say they love us.
Armada is neglected simply because it's more complex so fewer people can play it (you can't really expect a preteen understanding all the rules and be able to combine all those cards), and it is considerably more expensive than X-Wing. Let's face it, ours is an elite game

The newer waves of X wing are heavily ramping up the complexity though.
Thanks chaps.
Oddly enough it has me thinking about X-wing, I've tried Armada, and I like it, but I'm trying to get some games for a social boardgame collection. With X-wing I could potentially do a smaller more concentrated collection with my favourite ships. Although I need to try it first. Thankfully my local shop has a demo a copy
I start with Armada, best game I've ever played!!!
With some money to put aside, I took the decision to buy some stuff from X-Wing and it was a good decision too, cause when I don't have the time for a long game of Armada, it's fun to have this option to play X-Wing for a little hour. Maybe it don't have the same layer of complexity (strategics+tactics) but it's still a Star Wars games and miniatures and alot of fun.
If I had to make a choice, Armada each time. If you are looking for a game not too long, not too complicated and not too pricy, maybe you should look at X-Wing first. But... if you are looking for some challenge and money is not a issue for you, throw yourself in the Armada universe. With the Corellian Conflict (campaign mode), it's just incredible.

I love complexity, I mean I play Heroclix on a semi-competitive basis in my local store, and put up a mean fight even with a terrible sealed team. However while we've had some great stuff in the small town I'm in I'm moving elsewhere bigger by August so no assurance I'll find another solid community. So what I'm trying to put together is something fun and beginner friendly that I can play with my cousin or a social group. and Armada is too complex for the former.
I'm living near Montréal (Québec, Canada) and we maybe have alot of people who's playing the game in the area (near 2 millions of population) but the bet that I made was it will not be that easy to find people playing Armada.
So I just took the decision to bought both side, this way I'm always ready to play against any of my friends. Yes it cost me near 2000$ but for me, this game just worth every dollard spent
