Sea of Blood water map...what is it made of?

By Frog, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Over at Board Game Geek I saw a post that claimed the water map is made of vinyl. Is this true or is it just like a folded poster?

If it is vinyl, then it will hold up to multiple campaigns much better I would think. What is your opinion on its quality?

I'm not sure what "vynil" means, i looked it up, and i don't even know what the german version of vynil actually stands for :)

But the quality of the map is by far better than an general poster, it is also thicker.
In other words, you can not accidently tear apart the map or get a scratch or similiar into it like you would in a poster.

I think it might be vinyl or a vinyl like substance.

Maybe its made of the fabric of Evil demonio.gif

vinyl = pvc = polyvinylchlorid

i dont think the map is made of pvc :o

It's definitely not made of vinyl. Vinyl would be waterproof as it's a type of plastic and just looking at this map I can tell the last thing I'd want to do is get it wet =). But it is a very high quality material, whatever it is. The texture is similar to the tokens/map pieces from earlier sets, so they appear to be using the same linen printing process (that's what I've heard it called - whatever that means) on a sturdier type of paper, to make up for the lack of cardboard backing.

I remember some people expressing concern about whether or not the map would unfold and lay flat during play, and looking at mine I don't think that will be a problem. The folds seems to straighten out quite nicely when I unfold it and put it down on the table. It's very durable (for a paper fold out) and should last quite a long time with reasonable care.

I am going to buy a really thin plexy glass or sth similar in the size of the map to cower it.

While I thought the map was something special at first, it proved to be paper when I ripped the edges twice by accident. To reinforce the edges I taped them with clear tape which solved my ripping problem. The map should have been better quality, it dosen't stand up well to wear and tear.
