Hide is a condition keyword , and after the attack resolves, condition keywords only grant the corresponding condition ( Hidden in this case) if the target suffered damage from the attack.

Just to add to a1bert's answer: there is an important distinction between Condition Keywords (Hide, Stun, etc.) and conditions themselves (Hidden, Stunned, etc.). So, for example Davith's Fell Swoop surge ability says that you "become Hidden" meaning that it would take effect regardless of whether or not damage was dealt.
