As Spock said, "Sauce for the goose".
Stores have to pay for the kits, so it's not really "free stuff".

Assuming you play at a venue that lets you do kits for free (but the vast majority, in my experience, charge some sort of entry fee, because otherwise the store is taking a hit on the kits). Either way, FFG isn't giving anybody swag for free, and I think these days it might be a stretch to say most people "
love
" X-Wing. Have you seen these boards or listened to the podcasts or been to any tournaments recently? ;-)
In contrast to all the negativity, I really like these!
Ello is a cool pilot - OK he doens't see high level competitive play, but let's face it, 95% of pilots don't anyyway. But he is useful and - more importantly - fun to fly.
The Tactician playing a tactical game is a great touch - someone playing a game within a game I'm playing!
And the square tokens are very different and will really stand out - it helps they seem to colour match the Cog O'Two ones I already have...

Yes! I absolutely agree. How can you say no to a Mandalorian playing Dejarik? That's pretty sweet.
My point regarding the kits is this. You don't like the contents of the kits, you're not going to use the cards or the tokens so save your money and don't enter. Stay home and get a pickup game with a friend. Order a pizza and call it a win. It doesn't make much sense to complain about stuff you get for competing and then pay money to compete for stuff you don't want or use.
People still love this game. Some people aren't happy unless they are complaining about something. Some people aren't happy unless other people aren't happy then they're fine. Podcasts and these forums share something with the news. You'll seldom hear about good things happening on the news. It's all about headlines and "look at me". In other words it's the squeaky wheel that gets noticed.
I'm not saying all posters on the forum are that way. Some have valid complaints. Some need an ear to vent to. But you have your trolls. They hit the hornet's nest and sit back and watch.

True. My point was you're paying to compete, basically for bragging rights, and the stuff you get for paying the fee is free to you. The stores hope to make money on sales that happen from hosting the event.
I will be going to tournaments anyway, because I want to play X-Wing with my friends, but if there has been a decrease in the quality of the kits (which I and others feel there has) then that's a valid thing to criticize, because we know they are capable of producing better, and arguments along the line of "stay home and save your money" don't do anything to address that disappointment.

Circles can be viewed as the shape with the most corners or the least. Common sense dictates that circular reasoning has no point, but science says you can make a circle out of corners...
In more serious news, I'm kind of sick of uniform kits. I have six copies of recon specialist not, which is a tad ridiculous. I proposed a new format wherein you put 1-2 copies of a lot of desirable cards in a tournament kit, then let last place pick the card they want first, while giving higher plces the choice of more cards later on. If you're a new player just starting out and you come dead last in your first tournament, that's then okay because you get a lovely Emperor Palpatine card. If you're a competitive player you can finally collect the Snap Shots and Jukes to run an A-wing swarm.
Tokens are cool and all, but cards are dirt cheap, and I'd love more of them for my $15 entry fee.
I think the rectangular evade tokens are the size of the 1 forward movement template.
To me they're probably meant to be used as evade tokens and markers for when you have to move your ship out of the way while another ship moves through yours. If you don't want them, give them away. Simple as that.

That, is a great point.
If anyone has any ffg acrylic they don't want, I'd gladly accept them ... also coins ... I'd gladly take those as well ...

I don't think so - a 1 Straight is almost as long as the short side of a small card. These tokens look to be about half the length of the same short side (or just a bit over half).
Well now I need to find a place to play where I'm good enough to get some store kit goodies, because I'd like that tactician.
In all honesty though, anything is a bonus to me. I'm playing because I enjoy the game.
I hand out spare alt art cards to new players just for coming out to casual XWing nights. You bet I'm happy to see the next kit.
Fine addition for a collection !
I only have one tactician card and be happy to have more. I don't really thing FFG will put autothrusters or crackshot cards (actually I deeply want crackshot for my swarm tie
)
Hope to see generic pilots card again !

I don't know where you live, but you might be able to find a place where they will give them out as participation prizes. The one tournament I've been to did that (for Swarm Tactics; looks like you might have to place higher for the pilot, since there are fewer of those).

Swag for the Swag Throne!
If I have to guess the square evades are maybe intended to use for the " reinforce action " (Wave 11). You can easily place them on the front or back side of your ship.
Don't think so - Reinforce Fore and Aft both have their own symbol.

Yes I know that. But you could still use the token for that

Ketsu. I really want a Ketsu.
Salt , salt was had by all!
I think its neet that they try new designs.

I think its more the color than the shape honestly. Usually FFG frosts their acrylics which sets them apart.
Yeah, but i have to hold a pari before making a final judgement
wonder if they will do them all rectangular from now on. If they do , allot of 3d cadprinters and so on will have to redo their token trays.
Like the alt arts, though I do wish the pilots were ones used more often. Tactician gets used.
The tokens ... wtf?
