Some Game Questions

By BaronOfHell, in DOOM: The Board Game

Hi there,

Just started playing and there are a few rules that we are still uncertain on:

1. Stun - Can med packs heal the Stun ailment or is it health only?

2a. Objectives - There are game types where the marines obtain objectives (see Knee Deep in the Dead). There are portals underneath the objectives, does this mean the portal becomes active when the door is opened or when the marine picks up the objective. On a sub note, if the marine picks up the objective before the portal is opened, does that mean the game ends even if the portal doesn;t become active?

2b. Objectives - In some cases like the mission "Leaving the Nest" there is asset extraction, is this where the marines have to take the progress token from where it is located back to a teleporter? Is this true of other objectives in the game.

3. Summoning - If a marine opens a door and invaders are summoned, are the initiative cards placed in the initiative deck immediately and used this turn or do they wait until the next round?

4. Discarding - Once all the cards have been discarded, do you take your discard pile, shuffle it and put it back as your deck? I imagine this is the case but there is nothing in the rules about it

Hello there!

1. Medpacks only recover the 5 health points; nothing else. That's what its description is.

2a. No, you have to carefully read the corresponding Objective card for each mission. Knee Deep in the Dead's objective is called "Sample Collection." For that mission, choose a demon that spawns from under the token. That demon is a priority target. He cannot be glory killed but when a marine kills him, he can pick up the dropped objective token.

2b. No, like above, it depends on exactly what the Objective card says. For only that mission, you have to escort tokens.

3. They are placed in the initiative deck at the end of the current Marine's activation. Then, the remaining deck is shuffled. This is described in the Infestation threat card.

4. Yeah you do that. I don't remember where it was written. Make sure that you don't shuffle the cards in your hand with it. Just your discard pile.

Hope that helps!

Revise in 4: found the rule under ACTION CARDS in rules reference:

"If a marine needs to either draw or reveal an action card but the action deck is depleted, he shuffles the discard pile to create a new deck of action cards. Then, he draws or reveals a card from that deck.

- If all of a marine’s action cards are in hand or in play, he cannot draw action cards."

hi:)

i would like to know some things about the game! pls help

1. can demons activate and use portals?

2. if i have more cards then 3 as a marine at the end of the turn, i have to throw them away (randomly or chossen?) until i have only 3 card... or i can keep them all?

3. when a marine or demon attacks....after the attack if u have speed that you didnt use...can you use that after the attack?

4. i just realised marines so op need balance the game...and need a lot XD (and its not a joke: with my bro played the game twice...invader has no chance i mean seriusly ...invader has 0% chance to win...the marine just opened the door (where cyber demon were summoned) and he killed cyber demon in that turn....I go like WTF!!! critical headshot....RIP cyber demon....and nobody can say we cant play the game as invader correctly because we can!:)....so need balance i just wanted to tell.... and thx for the answers!:)

Hi,

1. There are 3 types of game mode regarding portals. They are on the threat cards. I don't think Demons can activate portals, there are certain criteria you have to meet to activate them. I believe in Infestation mode, when a door is opened, you can summon demons form any portal within the room. In Horde you summon from 1 or 2 portals at the end of the round. In Assault is where you have to sped threat tokens to activate portals and summon from them. The only difference is you can only activate a red portal if you kill a marine.

2. You keep the cards you have until the end of the activation phase. Then they are discarded. There is some confusion regarding 1 marine vs invaders though. We have played it where the marine keeps their cards until the next marine initiative card appears. When that happens, we discard the cards in the hand and deal the required amount of cards.

3. It says in the rules you can move at any time during an activation, but not during an attack. We have played it in the past where the marine has attacked and when he has finished, then he is allowed to spend the movement points and move.

4. I would do a few test runs with the game. Familiarise yourself with the rules, movements, attacks and objectives. I have played games with 1 marine and 2 marines and it has been fairly even with 1 game coming down to a dice roll to determine the winner. The odds are against the invaders in all situations, but the invaders need to be ruthless, spend cards to get argent energy to unlock the special moves. How was the Cyber Demon killed? If the marine has used special weapons like the Gauss cannon with Siege Mode, the BFG or the Chaingun then it is likely to happen. At the end of the day there is a fair bit of luck that comes to it.

Any queries, let me know

Just to add on BaronOfHell's posts:

1. A demon figure cannot activate or do anything to a portal on the map. Only the different threat cards explain how portals are used.

2. A marine can have more than 3 cards in his hand. But if he does, he doesn't pick up cards at the end of his activation. The only time he discards all cards and shuffles them with his deck and discard pile is when he is fragged. It's basically a reset.

3. Simply saying, while rolling dice to attack or pulling cards to defend, you can't move.

4. Yeah the solo marine is pretty tough. One good balance alternative is to have the demons win with 3 frags, instead of 6. Works well.

1. i think the the same, but can they use after a marine activate it?....

2. hmmm... interesting i think this is reasonable solution...i prefer throw away randomly until have 3 but your solution sounds good too Thx:)

3. thx:)

4. ...

Thx Meekey!!

4. with my bro we will play it like with one marine (10 health, 3 card, active only once per turn, and do 1 main action) XD and if the marine looks week we add some modification :) We dont want to do modification which was written in cards( like u say questcard need 6 frag to win with invader) exept the 4 rule modificator cards.( solo, two marine, three marine)
