Old Cat Fenn

By Green Doo, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I've been testing Wingman ept with decent success. This is my next idea to play high paced list with tools to compete against strong meta lists.

Protectorate Starfighter: · Fenn Rau (28)
Push The Limit (3)
Autothrusters (2)
Concord Dawn Protector (1)

Protectorate Starfighter: · Old Teroch (26)
Push The Limit (3)
Autothrusters (2)
Concord Dawn Protector (1)

Protectorate Starfighter: · Kad Solus (25)
Wingman (2)
Seismic Torpedo (2)
Autothrusters (2)
Concord Dawn Protector (1)
TOTAL: 98/100p.

Ptl limit to provide action economy for aces, wingman to help with stress. Kad Solus can keep up being aggressive and follow well manouvering Fenn & Teroch with red moves, which are actually his strong point. Seismic torpedeos are there to help cut angles for Fenn & Teroch and harass aces hiding in asteroids. Fenn &Teroch should also be enough to combat aces. And autothrusters for all to survive against turrets.

How do you see this? And what could be its weak points, bomber lists maybe?

The list is decent. I've flown it a bit using Kad Solus w/ Predator @ 97 points. For me, Wingman would be utterly useless since I never fly these guys in any kind of formation, so its pretty rare that it would do anything. Perhaps your playstyle is different, but this is definitely a '3 flankers' kind of list and that's the way I play it. PTL is a bit limiting on the Protectorate since it loses the extra long green straights that a-wing and TIE interceptor have, but other than that, it works decent enough that I don't find the stress too inhibiting. Of course, it becomes vulnerable to stress control builds, but I consider this more of a 'fun' list than a seriously competitive list. If you really want to fly a more competitive '3 flankers' list, I think Imperials are much better off in that regard.

Regardless of how you fly it, I would say that the Seismic Torpedo is a big mistake for this type of list. You absolutely do NOT want to unclutter the board with this type of list. The only time it would be useful is against a pure turret list such as 4 TLT y-wings (and the new aggressor). Against basically everything else, you will want to keep as many obstacles out there to limit opponent moves as possible, since your ships are very easy to maneuver through them whereas most other ships struggle more. Why take away your biggest advantage?

Thank you for your input mate.

I'm competing just in local level so I'm not expecting to face strong list after another in big tournament.

I may fly protectorates a bit differently as I've found Wingman relatively useful. I can boost + barrel roll with an ace and still not be dependant on green moves next turn has been huge factor with my success with protectorates. Also even if ships flank separately they kinda wish to hit one target at r1 at the same time and then wingman will become useful.

I see your point with seismic torpedo and it sounds reasonable to me. I'll still test seismic torp as protectorates don't fly slow and sometimes I really wish there was no rock in front of me when fighting in close range.
