Sigmar...What's the deal?

So this is probably not an apples to apples comparison...But if I wanted to get into fantasy type setting stuff on a table....I'm wondering if I should try sigmar or rune-wing.

I don't have a particular urge to get into either of them now but...I can see down the line being interested in trying one out.

They are quite different games, best to try them both before commiting.

Little story, i went shopping today and so I went to the GW store, I'm not that often there because it takes me about 1h to 1h 20min to get there by car + train (nearest city doesn't have a GW) and I normaly buy/order my stuff at a local toy store, it's local and cheaper. But my mother wanted to go shopping in said city (that city is bigger and has more stores especially clothing stores) so I went with her and when I was in the GW store I looked around and thought about buying something, you know I hadn't found anything that day and yes of course I can go into the city without buying stuff but I hadn't bought a miniature in quite some time (I'm not counting my Infinity pre order here ;) ) and Runewars will not be out to soon here.
So i looked around, I do like the new 40K and AoS Tzeentch stuff but the single models like the Changeling or the Tzangoor Shaman and Ahriman are really nice models but quite expensive for one model and the boxes for both cost even more and I didn't want to spend that much and then I saw the Storm of Sigmar box.
13 models for a resonable price, yes i know they are snap fit models from the big starter set and starter sets are always cheap and charatcers are more expensive than troops but I nevertheless gave it a try. And i have to say i quiet like the box, you get your models (Stormcast: 2 Retribtors, 3 Liberators Khorne: 3 Blood Warrior and 5 Blood Reavers and every unit of both factions has a champion), you also get a nice small rulebook (better than that big leaflet GW had for AoS) with 4 battleplans (scenarios with pre made forces), dice ( yeah more dice soon I will be able to buy a dice fortress ;) ) and unit cards/warscrolls something the big starter set doens't have as far as I know, yes the cards are quite big but that was probably because either GW is GW and has do to thing different than the rest or because the wanted everthying one side and the other side has nice artworks (except for the Retributor he looks strange), one thing missing is something like a cardboard range ruler, but on back of the rulebook you got a printed on range ruler I'm not sure if that is silly or great.
So now i might try to use this to get someone else into the game, perhaps even give him one faction, though which one I don't know. I already own some Stormcast hereos to use them in Silver Tower so there is that and I do like Space Marines ( ) but the Liberators don't look that good, the Khorne guys look nice especially the Blood Warriors but then I'm more of a Nurgle or Tzeentch guy ;)
And i still like the upcoming dwarves and the Tzeentch models so I might get something there too.
And another nice thing someone in the shop told me how to do lava bases for the Khorne guys.
Something bad however is that the Shadow War: Armageddon Box is limited nad probably mostly sold (or preordered) out already, its said it has a nce discount on the terrain and the way it seems at the moment there will only be a digital version of the book avalaible and that sucks, I don't mind the terrain that much but i prefer physical copies of my rulebooks.

So your saying not one of us has a legitimate reason to dislike the game.

All complaints are solely due to unreasonable hate.

But we're the apologist's...

Yes, I found that a very ironic statement as well. Especially considering it's source.

There's nothing ironic about objectivity. Do you know what that word means?

He does hence his sense of irony.

Hell my objection was balance yet you just lump me in with the haters never even addressing my point.

You had a point?

AoS is garbage even after the generals hand book came out there's no balance to be had, most of the models are terrible and extremely over priced.

What's keeping them afloat is videogame licence fees and 30k.

op if you want a fantasy game look at 9th age or kings of war, if you want a skirmish game try frostgrave just avoid AoS.

Good, good, your tears make me stronger. They give me focus.

Disliking the game is fine. Disliking the game simply because it isn't WHFB doesn't contribute anything meaningful. There are certainly reasons why someone might not like AoS, legitimate reasons: measuring model to model, the mortal wounds vs horde army dynamic, summoning / reserve points, an entire quarter of the game is practically non-existant (I'm looking at you, Death), more than half the game's models range from outdated to severely outdated, point costs rarely account for anything more than a model's hit points, etc. People here are so blinded by their hate that I doubt they gave the game enough of a look to even be aware of its true faults.

Instead of bringing up the issues I listed above, it's mostly just been 'boo hoo I can't use the big bad army I collected 10 years ago.' I sympathize, and while that might be a mark against GW, it has absolutely nothing to do with AoS . Do you know how many other games won't let you play those armies? All of them. Might as well start complaining about how X-Wing has no Bretonnians while you're at it, for all the relevance your collections have.

For me,having round bases and no rank and file system is enough to make it not worth pursuing. There are enough skirmish games out there that I don't need another. I would want a fantasy army system. Age of Sigmar doesn't give that. THAT is a valid complaint, yet you consider someone who doesn't like a game without rank and file as "boo-hooing" about it. To me it is essential to the type of game that I want to play. As stated, there are a dime a dozen skirmish games that I could play if I wanted to.
