Best Firespray/Shadowcaster Combo?

By SDCC, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I've recently opened up my Shadowcaster, and it's a great ship.

I love my Firespray, having mainly used it for Scum Boba and Emon.

Can they be used effectively together?

Current thinking is that Emon could be more specific and stick to the bombs whilst an SC zooms around with it's turret.

I guess you could even fit in a Z95 if the points worked out.

Any ideas?

Probably Boba and Assaj.

Maybe Boba and Ketsu if you Adaptability Boba down to meet Ketsu but I wouldn't want to do that.

I've run Emon a couple of times and just found him to be too lacking. the need to get past people to bomb effectively coupled with his lack of an EPT just ruins him.

E: your thread intrigued me. This is probably how I'd build it:

Boba Fett (Scum) (39)
Veteran Instincts (1)
K4 Security Droid (3)
Cluster Missiles (4)
Glitterstim (2)
Extra Munitions (2)
Engine Upgrade (4)
Slave I (0)

Asajj Ventress (37)
Push the Limit (3)
Latts Razzi (2)
Rigged Cargo Chute (1)
Gyroscopic Targeting (2)

Total: 100

Boba with PS10 boost and Cluster Missiles has a LOT of punch and full mods much of the time. But you might be better off tooling Assaj up a little more, dropping the munitions, and putting Tail Gunner on Boba instead.

Appreciate the thought put into this :)

There is something very sexy about Boba charging in with munitions.

I wonder if you could use 4-Lom on Boba? Come in all guns blazing. Take an ion, close off their token stack, hit them with the clusters. Might be too specific.

You certainly could do.

I probably wouldn't. If you're going for full mods you're probably having to use Stim to do to it, and using 4LOM means you're not clearing your stress next round.

Plus, K4 gives you the action economy to actually fire your Clusters if you can only get into range 3 of the target with your movement.

I would struggle to run a big ship with munitions without K4 unless they were Attack: Focus ones.

Makes sense. I do enjoy a good spitballing session; even the bad ideas add to the thought process.

I guess I just need to not fly Boba into corners like an idiot now...

I watched a batrep online last night of Emon/Asajj vs Palp defenders. The scum list seemed pretty good if you're practiced with bombs.

I'm still working on a Kath and Asajj build, but I did put this together to try out some time too ...

Firespray-31: · Emon Azzameen (36)
Tractor Beam (1)
Seismic Charges (2)
· Ketsu Onyo (1)
· Andrasta (0)
Scavenger Crane (2)
Cluster Mines (4)
Proximity Mines (3)
Lancer-class Pursuit Craft: · Asajj Ventress (37)
Push The Limit (3)
Engine Upgrade (4)
· Latts Razzi (2)
· Shadow Caster (3)
Rigged Cargo Chute (1)
Burnout SLAM (1)
-- TOTAL ------- 100p. --

I like the idea of trailing the opponent behind you...

Poopchute 2000 (100)

Kath Scarlet (54) - Firespray-31
Expertise (4)
Thermal Detonators (3), Extra Munitions (2)
Dengar (3)
Slave I (0)
Engine Upgrade (4),

Asajj Ventress (46) - Lancer-class Pursuit Craft
Push The Limit (3)
K4 Security Droid (3)
Rigged Cargo Chute (1)
Gyroscopic Targeting (2)

Dengar/Expertise makes Kaths red dice hands-free leaving actions for boosting and Evades. Asajj already has fast greens to use PTL and both leave stress obstacles behind as they go.

Loads of action economy in here, Kath gets up to the equivalent of 4 actions (Focus from Expertise, TL from Dengar, a bomb drop on revealing the dial and her own action), and Asajj is the same with K4 and Gyroscopic Targeting added to Push The Limit.

This past weekend, I was finally able to test my Boba Fett/Ketsu Onyo build first hand at a local store's event; I concocted it shortly after the Regional in Omaha, but wasn't able to test it at the Regional in Kansas City.

My list consists of:

- Boba Fett with Fearlessness, Engine Upgrade, Dengar, Slave-1, and Glitterstim (49-points)

- Ketsu Onyo with Veteran Instincts, Gyroscopic Targeting, K4 Security Droid and Shadow Caster (47-points)

Some might ask themselves why leave yourself a 4-point initiative bid, when those points could be used on additional upgrades. My sole reason is a local Regional champion who is very skilled with using Fenn Rau in a list at 97-points (so I wanted something that could possibly win the initiative contest).

During this past weekend's event, 3 rounds were played (due to time available), and only said Fenn Rau-using Regional champion and myself were 3 and 0 at the end. My MOV took a bit of a hit due to the nature of using 2 large base ships, so I ended the event in 2nd place due to the MOV difference.

My opponents through the event played quite a wide assortment of ships/squadrons, and were:

- Round 1 versus Palpmobile with Whisper (ACD, FCS, VI, Kallus) and Omega Leader (Juke, Comm Relay, and SD)...Win, 100 to 0.

- Round 2 versus Ketsu Onyo (PTL, EU, K4, Shadow Caster) and Kath Scarlet (Expertise, Tail Gunner, EU)...Win, 100 to 72.

- Round 3 versus Darth Vader (Juke, EU, TIE/x1, ATC), Countess Ryad (PTL, TIE/x7), Delta (TIE/x7)...Win, 100 to 47.

Having a PS9 and having the ability to decide who had initiative proved crucial in 2 of my matches; allowing me to shoot at Whisper before she cloaked and know where Vader was at prior to moving Ketsu. My build is far from perfect, but it fits my playstyle and I feel that it tested out well-enough for me.

Whatever build you should decide upon, enjoy it to it's fullest, for these 2 ships do pair quite nicely together (regardless of who is piloting them).

Appreciate the time you put in to writing that dude.

Gives me a lot to think about!
