3 Small Ship Scum Build

By Ishanmaster, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So it's been months since I've last played Scum and wanted to start flying them again but I want to build a list that doesn't have a single large ship as I've never seen an all small ship scum list since they've introduce large ships for scum at my LGS. The idea behind this build is that the Hawk sets up the target and the two G-1A do majority of the heavy lifting with a lot of action-less modifiers.

HWK-290 Torkil Mux (19)

Dengar (3)

Twin Laser Turret (6)

Moldy Crow (3)

Vectored Thrusters (2)

Total (33)

G-1A Gand Findsman (25)

Expertise (4)

Outlaw Tech (2)

Fire-Control System (2)

My first thought is that with the extra point to spare you could give the mist Hunter title to one of the g1as. Might as well and it could be useful.

My second thought is that I admire the consistency of this list. The two g1-as will always have fully modified shots.

My biggest concern for you though is survivability. Not a huge amount of health and not many green dice to help out.

You will also have to be careful about not getting stuck in range 3 in the initial engagement and missing Mux's ability.

The abilities are solid though, I wish you luck!

If you are curious, I just made a small ship scum build I'm excited to try this weekend.

Z-95 Headhunter: · N'dru Suhlak (17)
· Lone Wolf (2)
"Hot Shot" Blaster (3)
HWK-290: · Torkil Mux (19)
Twin Laser Turret (6)
Y-Wing: Syndicate Thug (18)
Twin Laser Turret (6)
Unhinged Astromech (1)
Z-95 Headhunter: Binayre Pirate (12)
Feedback Array (2)

I keep going back and forth between cluster missiles and hot shot on N'dru. But regardless, should be fun.

I, too, tend to try to fly small-ship-only Scum lists. Because I am a bit of a contrarian. Your list is very good. I would say only maybe swap out the turret on your HWK, maybe Autoblaster and give him an Illicit Cloak as well. Boosts maneuverability and survivability, works slightly better in concert with Torkil's ability. Folks are already going to be focusing on Torkil, so maybe take Dengar out and give him a HotCop, further softening up targets for the Findsmen. As crossvoicing says, throw the title on one of them - you don't need a bid, and it has some good utility.

My go-to small-base list has been Mindlinked Guri and a pair of TanPtVets. Although I'm thinking about swapping in a Protectorate, as they're so much fun to fly.

A couple of importent things I would chance.

Most importent - I would drop vectored thrusters on Torkil and put them on one of the Findsmen and Misthunter on the other. They are your damagedealers, so it is imperative, that they gets to fire as much as possible, because they are limited by maneuvers and fire arc and can quickly die, and barrel roll greatly increases the chance of them having shots on the enemy.

Secondary but still importent - I would exchange Dengar for Recon Specialist on Torkil for more survivorbility. He is your trick not your damagedealer. Recon Spec is great with the title and focus even gives potentially more damage than Dengars reroll on attacks, if you load focuses on the title before engaging with the enemy. Dengar is only better if Torkil bumps a lot.

Have you heard of our Scummy lord and savior: Attanni Mindlink?

Palob: Mindlink, TLT, Dengar

Findsman: Mindlink, FCS

Findsman: Mindlink, FCS,

Binayre Pirate: Feedback Array

Same three ships + a Bug Zapper. The Mindlinked ships are all PS5 so you can choose movement order for stress clearing purposes. Palob is the Focus bank while the G1-As take the Evade or TL to go along with it and the Pirate tries to block and be a nuissance.

I like Dengar and tlt on the op's list ... my other thoughts are that the findsman have just enough red moves to block expertise .. maybe use predator instead, because once Mux makes an enemy a zero, they have two RE rolls .. maybe stick advanced sensors on both instead of fcs..

I think this would work:

(99)

Cartel Marauder (30) - Kihraxz
Assault Missiles (5), "Hot Shot" Blaster (3), Vectored Thrusters (2)

Dace Bonearm (38) - HWK-290
Expose (4), Blaster Turret (4), Saboteur (2), Scavenger Crane (2), Stealth Device (3)

Black Sun Enforcer (31) - StarViper
Advanced Proton Torpedoes (6)

So at first I was wondering how to break it to you that this list is, well, terrible. But now I see that you are not serious.

Presumably.

Try this:

98 points

Fenn Rau — Protectorate Starfighter 28

Attanni Mindlink 1

Autothrusters 2

Concord Dawn Protector 1

Ship Total: 32

Palob Godalhi — HWK-290 20

Attanni Mindlink 1

Autoblaster Turret 2

Intelligence Agent 1

Cloaking Device 2

Stygium Particle Accelerator 2

Ship Total: 28

Guri — StarViper 30

Attanni Mindlink 1

Sensor Jammer 4

Autothrusters 2

Virago1

Ship Total: 38

You're suffering from over-upgrading your ships. Consider: an Agility (AGI) 1 Gand isn't going to use his focus on defense, so he does't need Expertise since he'll have an offensive focus token. I'd recommend shifting the list focus to:

Gand Findsman (28)
G-1A Starfighter (25), Attanni Mindlink (1), Fire-Control System (2)

Gand Findsman (30)
G-1A Starfighter (25), Attanni Mindlink (1), Tactician (2), Fire-Control System (2)

Palob Godalhi (30)
HWK-290 (20), Attanni Mindlink (1), Twin Laser Turret (6), Dengar (3)

Binayre Pirate (12)

Totalling 100 points.

In essence, you strip down your 3 ships to make room for a Z-95 blocker. Attanni mindlik is so much better than Expertise in this situation - Palob steals a focus (triggering attani) to weaken the target, then each ship wails on the now vulnerable ship. Tactician is there to keep the target pinned down, and a Dengar TLT hits like a brick on low agility ships. You're vulnerable to high PS aces, but it's not an impossible fight.

Now that's just scary. I just posted a list like this. O.o
