Housing for Miniatures

By rakashan, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Looking for a good way to store all of the miniatures that come with Descent. Bought three different foam trays, but still have lots to go. Is there a brand or something someone can recommend to store them all?

I'm using foam trays. Mainly because I had lots of pick and pluck foam trays from the days of my Warhammer 40K addiction. As to which foam trays are best, I would decide how much Descent you plan to have, whether you want them all to fit in one bag or if multiples are ok, and let that lead you to what bag you want. The bag size will determine the tray diameters to use.

I bought everything pretty much at once, so I was able to plan ahead and figure out how many foam trays it will take to store them all once I have everything painted. Using 7.5x13 foam trays, all current figures will fit in a sabol designs armored company or division case, with room to spare for another couple trays for more expansion.

A different direction entirely you could go though would be to velcro or magnetize the bases and make trays (thin pieces of wood would be all you need) for them all to stand on, and use storage containers like Plano boxes that way. That would take far less space as you could stand figures right next to each other without touching, rather than having to separate each figure by a quarter inch on each side, which is what foam trays make you do. Also gives you complete flexibility over how you organize the figures since you don't have to worry about making appropriate sized slots in foam trays. I'll likely switch to this method myself at some point.

Saw the Feldherr and trying to get it from my local games distributor!
